I am building an army for the southern campaign in 1780-1781. What type of uniforms did the 76th regiment of foot and the 80th regiment of foot wear? Was the 76th a highland regiment in appearance like the 71st? Thank you all in advance. |

There's a lack of good evidence for both regiments, particularly the 80th. My interpretation, such as it is, would have them looking like the 71st in overalls. However, SM and HG might have something else of more use. My two shillings. Eric |

IIRC, 80th wore standard coat and cocked hat uniform, while the 76th was a highland unit in kilts/overalls. |

There's a nice colour plate in the British redcoat 1740 – 1793 osprey warrior book showing the 80th foot in 1780 – as per HG's comment ( with yellow facings) |

Again, off the top of my head, but I believe the 76th had green facings (42nd blue, 71st white). |

Here is the Facebook page of the recreated 76th Foot with photos: link I have only seen them in the field at Under the Redcoat recreating the British occupation of Williamsburg under Cornwallis and in trowsers instead of kilts. |

They were a late war unit, so that is probably how they looked. |

80th yellow facings/silver lace; standard line uniform. 76th dark green facings/gold lace; possibly kilted when it arrived, but may have changed prior to "going South". I believe that at least the light company, and possibly one entire wing, of the 76th was given horses and served as mounted infantry in the South – you wouldn't want to be doing that in kilts. |

So King's Mountain Highlanders for the 76th and either Perry (metal or plastic) or Fife and Drum for the 80th? Thank you all very much for the education. |
