In the Osprey Modern African Wars which covers Rhodesia, there is a plate showing a ZIPRA Regular (the middle figure):
This appears to be a dark blue background with camo on top. Would anyone have information on this uniform type and any suggestions for painting it would be appreciated. Alan |

I painted up a bunch of Cubans for a CWGH game at Cold Wars – the paint scheme I used was a base coat of Vallejo Grey-green, GW Scorched Brown for the brown stripes and then Vallejo Luftwaffe Camo Green for the green stripes. Touch up with the base coler to ensure the stripe effect doesn't get blotted out in some palces as is wont to happen and then black wash for the finish. Vallejo Panzer Aces Field Grey II also makes a good base coat as well. You can see some of the pics here: link If I could ever figure out how to get pics to post inline on this forum I'd paste them into this message

Yes, Cuban-style 'Lizard' pattern. North Korea also manafactured the same pattern and supplied it to various African revolutionary movements. |

Keep in mind that there was a lot of "borrowing" amongst the different factions, so just about any period-specific (or earlier) camo would be feasible. This gives you a chance to let your imagination run wild, and to try out that camo pattern you've never gotten a chance to paint!! |
