Dreamblade Repainted

Hundvig Fezian is not a real big fan of pre-painted minis, and he positively despises randomly-packed "collectable" ones - so why is he writing this article?

After years, I have created a fictional WWIII Scenario placed in around 1985 using Frank Chadwick's old set of Combined Arms rules.
I wonder if anyone is out there that also plays these rules?
If you like, see images and AAR on my Blog.
Comments welcomed.
This Scenario was meant to be a simple beginners game. I could need some advise on how to best integrate and play most of the more complex elements of modern warfare such as Electronic, Radar, Jamming and all this. How does it best work without spoiling the "balance".

Cheers,
Christian

Wow, thats very impressive Christian, a great post. Very clever to reset the SYW engagement like that!

What scale models – 3mm or 6mm I think?

To answer your question I have not heard of these rules, I am toying with Cold War Commander for large scale games like yours, and either a FOW variant, or the Canadian Army 'Contact' rules for smaller scale Combat team level rules.

I plan on playing them soom. Looking to do some secarios based on my GDP positions

@Sparker,

Yes, it's 6 mm scale. Most models are Heroics&Ros 1/300, some are GHQ, and some are from an unknown California based foundry, IIRC.

Great stuff, Ive been planning to do the old SPI game Fifth Corps with figures for years, but keep getting diverted. Ive about got the figures and rules together, just need some more infantry and concentration.
Good to see your set up.

Definitely all those S&T games like V Corps, Hof Gap, BAOR, etc are ripe for scenario fodder or campaigning. You just pick the best looking encounters to game out on the table, and use the boardgame system to resolve the rest.

Thats it; Ive done it in a smaller way with Panzerblitz and its kursk scenarios – deciding whether to stick it out or fall back with what youve got left adds a whole new dimension to the usual game.

I still have a copy of those rules from the old GDW days. Haven't used them in years, and lack any miniatures. Thanks for posting. Good to see the rules being put to good use.

I have the rules but have not played them in over a decade (two?). I've switched over to Fistful of Tows for Platoon level stand gaming. (I would play using Command Decision and Combined Arms but some of my group do not like it)

Certainly days of nostalgia there, have found memories of chewing up 3rd shock army units with BAOR in the 80's… Really liked combined arms,, just wonder what I have done with them…
