I am a new player of BA and a bit confused Maybe you can help me out..

Can the free Op spot for any Indirict fire unit dearing the game ,or do you asign him to a unit and that who he spots for.

And do the British get a perpard bombardment at the start of every game , Or just when the scenairo has a PBB in it.Or just when they are attacking?

The free arty observer is for bring down an arty barrage as detailed on pages 62 and 64. He can't spot for any other unit. Once the ary has gone off thats it, he cant really do anything else. The prep bombardment can only be used in games which allow it and they are the attacking force. Their army book gives them better special rules, i suggest you get that, it muchly improves them.

Thanks
So in order to use him, do I have to buy a artilery unit ?

No, its an off table Artillery barrage that comes in when you give him a "fire" order.
you place a token to say where you want the barrage to come in, then from the start of the NEXT turn you roll on the table to see what happens. If it doesnt go off then you roll on susequent turns to see if it does. If it does go off you resolve the barrage then remove the marker

Pete
thanks this helps alot

if I take the free OP and buy a OP also does it work the same way? Would I get to call in two Artillery attacks?

Cardinal Ximenez06 Apr 2013 7:30 a.m. PST

Pretty limited use.

Pete Melvin06 Apr 2013 8:05 a.m. PST

Yes. If you have two observers you get two barrages. Remember however that you only get one free observer for the army, not per platoon, so you'll have to pay for a second one. As for "limited use", well perhaps for other armies, as they pay full whack. An artillery strike in just the right place can do your prospects for victory a LOT of good. Multiple pins on multiple units is a big help. Of course, it can all go very wrong if you roll a 1
