Thanks to all for your input on the ECW rules . Now if you dont mind I could use similar help picking out your favorite manufactures for 15mm ECW figures . I recently picked up about 200 "old style" Essex made figure from a convention and am quite pleased with the casting's . One of the problems I see with Essex is that they are a bit hard to come by. Another point is the newer castings have an odd pose . Lets face it if we were to spread are legs as wide as some of the figures are posed we would hurt ourselves or fall down . I know there are a number of other lines out there and in my search I would vote for the OldGlory15s line at this point but would like to hear everyones opinion . What do you all think ? Best , Mark

Best is always a bit subjective but these from QRF take some beating and are a great fit with Essex.

Yes, the Frei-Corps stuff is very nice. Also in the states try Khurasan, their infantry are the same hight as Essex, a little slimmer and very nice,

Peter Pig make a nice range but I don't know how well they would match with older Essex figures.

Wait a while if you can, Khurasan have bought the old Testudo range and will be getting them back on the market this year.

I still like a lot of the old Minifigs. My armies match them up with Peter Pig, Freikorp and Matchlock. Very good.

Peter Pig do good casualty packs. Beautiful artillery … no limbers so get them from Freikorp or Museum.

I prefer Museum, and most of my ECW foote and artillery are from Dave and Julie, who provide friendly and efficient service.

I also have Museum horse, and mix in Essex horse. I have some Esssex foote along with Donnington and it all looks good to my eye. Museum has a variety of wagons and camp accessories as well for additional interest to your tabletop.

Hallmark is worth mentioning for their fine artillery, carts, etc. Order samples to help your decision; most manufacturers are happy to oblige.

I have quite a number of the Peter Pig cavalry and they are very good figures. Clean castings, nice proportions and good poses!

The great thing about Peter Pig is the figures are robust and you can fit steel pikes easily. I've drilled out a load of Minifigs pike men and I'm sick of it now! The Matchlock figures are good fro musketeers but I think the pikemen are a bit odd.

QRF do great "campaign" style troops and a really good range. Peter Pig are also a good range. Museum are a bit bigger and have cast in pikes which have thick shafts but the cavalry are very good. Essex are a bit dated now and small. Minifigs are very dated. Matchlock I still think are the best ECW figures but difficult to come by now and expensive. My armies are Matchlock and QRF with Peter Pig artillery crews. Museum do great limbers and carts including hay ricks and water barrel carts, well worth a look

The Minifigs are somewhat 'old school' but the addition of new heads from peter Pigs separate head range does lift them & I've got them mixed in with my PP,Freikorps etc.

Hi John

Matchlock- easy to get – miniaturefigurines.co.uk

I'll even do the thinking for you when you save money and buy the regimental packs

Still the most accurate out there-

Testudo did a brilliant TYW/ECW 18mm range a few years back. They were based in Italy. Someone else might have picked up the selling rights but I don't know who. Sorry.

Etranger22 Apr 2013 2:35 a.m. PST

Khurasan has picked them up IIRC which is good news for everyone!

2nd Generation Minifigs – not the strips, the individual figures with the slightly wooden poses and anachronistic uniforms (Roundheads all in "pots"), but much nicer (and more anatomically accurate) horses.

Supercilius Maximus10 May 2013 10:14 a.m. PST

Actually, if anyone has any 2G Minifigs they want to get rid of, I would be very interested (for my own use, I hasten to add, not to sell on).
