Hi Guys I was wondering if any manufacturer makes the characteristic Swiss Baselard individually or in sets in 25mm, an example is below:
I am converting some Landsknechts into Swiss Reislaufer and would love to be able to give some of them the characteristic swiss sword. Oli |

If you are looking for something that specific, and in larger scales, it may be worth modifying existing plastic swords from various weapon packs. Perry, Warlord Games, and others do have weapon packs in plastic, and a little bit of patience with a sharp hobby knife and some "green-stuff" would to the trick. A similar result can be obtained by adhering small bits of plastic to plastic swords with super-glues, as some are strong enough to weld the pieces together, and then you simply carve away. I have done similar things to plastic sets during conversions. Anything is possible, even making up a model and casting them out in pewter in a silicon mold. It really depends on how much time and effort you want to put into these things. ilodic. |

The closest I found is a Front Rank sword, fifth one from the left: link The only problem is that you only get one per pack of eight. Maybe FR will make up special packs for you? |

Thanks guys, the front rank sword is close and I could use the others in the pack so that may be the best bet. I had thought about using greenstuff but its not easy and I would struggle to get the symmetry of a sword hilt with it! |

By the time you get "Landsknecht" style dress the "Schweizerdegen" was rapidly disappearing as a weapon as it was replaced with various form of hand and a half swords among the Swiss. The dagger version of the weapon remained in use though and is frequently seen in the artwork. |

I would recommend to use celtic plastic swords. If you look at this image of the sprue of Warlord games:
In the lower right corner there are two swords and two daggers, and it looks to me that the blade of the sword together with the hilts of the daggers would make perfect swiss swords. The left dagger is also a perfect Schweizerdolch. The wargames factory sprue:
yields even more weapons. How many do you need? If its only a dozen or so I can probably loot my bizbox for plastic swords and daggers – I once build a substantial celtic army for a friend and have some leftovers. The WF roman swords come with hands:
If you want some of these, I have roughly 80 left (though they come with arms attached). |

Cheers for your help. Daniel I am using various different swords for the Reislaufer but I felt a few of the old style daggers and swords would fit in well. Puster a dozen or so of those Celtic swords and daggers would fit the bill perfectly, and you are right they do look the part, I had never thought of them! How do I send a private message? I can paypal you for them and give you my postal address Thanks for your help Oli |
