Part III of a Battle Group Kursk (Normandy Theme with our own additions…and guess work with regards to stats of Allied Armour and so forth) game we played some weeks ago…

Core-Rules themselves I have to say are absolutely brilliant and I can't wait for Battle Group Overlord…

As the title suggests we played in 15mm and didn't change measurements but played as per rule book…absolutely no probs playing in that scale

For those who are interested: Part I is here

And: Part II is here

The Sherman Platoon from US 2nd Armoured Division arrives with an Infantry platoon providing support…

With the burning house providing cover the US commander decides on the direct approach and enters the main street of the town…

The armour rumbles forward at a cautious pace in the knowledge that this forward thrust must succeed if there's any chance of the Allies securing their main objective…

Company Commander Winters fearing a further barrage of German mortars and whose hope has been somewhat lifted by the welcome sound of the roaring engines of the nearby Shermans, decides to leave behind some rather reluctant members of 1st Platoon who in an early effort to find cover have scrambled back towards the road west of town…

So what effectively remains of 1st Platoon is pushed forward across the open field into the outskirts of the town…

Meanwhile on the north side of the town, 2nd Platoon have been utterly devastated by a German flank assault and only a small shaken remnant of two squads is all that remains…The German Panzers with the sweet smell of victory in their nostrils move in for the kill…

The stone walls offer little cover from the German 75mm cannon at point blank range…whats left of 2nd Platoon scatter and run for their lives…

The Sherman Commander now aware of the Panzer threat to their left orders two tanks to peal around the buildings and cut them off…

After several ineffective shots are fired from both sides, eventually one of the Sherman's scores a decisive hit…

The German response however is immediate and deadly:

Another Sherman is lost and the US just can't afford many more loses…

On the main street the German assault guns decide to enter the fray…

The leading Stug tries his luck on the move…

An amazing (actually very lucky) shot rips into the leading Sherman's turret sending hot molten shrapnel missiles throughout the tank… eventually causing the ammo to explode…

A second Stug tears over the wall and takes up a good ambush shooting position…he's hoping to allow the Shermans ( who have to negotiate the narrow street to come onto him) and will attempt to pick them off one by one (using an Ambush Action ..)

TMP link

While the Stugs have done well, drawing first blood with the Sherman Platoon the German player has run out of actions for the turn and has failed to supply any infantry protection…

This oversight has been noticed by the the US Airborne CC who immediately directs a bazooka team towards the Stugs…

However more crappy luck for the Allies sees the shot strike a protective track on the rear and simply bonce harmlessly off…

Meanwhile US 2nd Armoured Division 1st Squad move along the Street

1st reach the corner shop, which will provide a decent firing arc of the area…

P47's are in the area and are attracted to the bellowing smoke…

Target Spotted…

With its target acquired the Thunderbolt unleases its M8 high-explosive 110 mm rockets towards the hapless Stug

Dedicated to our new baby boy Gabriel born yesterday…
