link Just put up on the TOR site by the author. Late stage gall bladder cancer. Not good. Really lovely man and his Culture novels are great. |

I only started reading his books last year and found them captivating. A rare combination of creative genius and superb writing and characterisation. I have started on his non-sf works and found them equally good. He will be missed for all sorts of reasons. I hope that he can make the best of what time remains to him. |

I'm just finishing his latest Culture novel, The Hydrogen Sonata, and really enjoying it. I'm going to miss having new ones to read. Always been a fan right from the Wasp Factory. Met him at an SF convention years ago. Amusing and friendly bloke. Sad news
