A bit of a dumb question, but I'm about to begin putting on decals and I 'm not sure if I should put .numbers on these pesky half-tracks. I,ve seen numbers on mostly late war 251s, and I found a pic of numbers on the front wing of 250s in 1940, but not sure about operation blue, 1942 period. If anyone has any ideas or links, please let me know.. thanks |

I believe Panzergrenadiers were using the 3 digit numbering system from late 1943. Before that they sometimes used 2 digit numbers (and also letters?) but I don't know how widespread or standardised that was. You mention Blue but may need to research specific units to be 100% accurate for this period. |

thanks. I'm interested in 9th Panzer, which did Blay phase 1 and then went up north. I have a book, it shows a 250 during Barbarossa with a single letter identifier on the right mudguard.. but nothing for 1942

In '41, during Barbarossa, there was only 1 armored PG company per division, so they didn't need a company number. Not sure about '42. |

. That's my answer I think! |

The letter on the mudguard is most likely a "D" or "G" and denotes the Panzergruppe they belongd to. |
