I am getting the word out on a special project for Ironclads – one of my key product lines.

The campaign in the link below is on Kickstarter.com which is a project and product funding web site. Each project is described with goals and time lines attached along with special incentive packages which backers will receive if the project funding goal is met or exceeded. If the target goal is not met no funds are taken.

I am running a campaign for a special project which – if successful – will put the Yaquinto board game Ironclads rules on the iPad system – plus some Android platforms – as an App game for miniatures play. An app is a program or application module downloaded to the tablet and can be used at anytime with the tablet along with other apps or programs for special tasks. Other features may come with the tablet also such as email capability, news, web site viewing etc.

I have the rights to the Ironclads game and have been waiting for the right time and circumstance to re-issue the game in a new format and system. Finding the right new system was part of the long delay and I believe the new tablet systems meet or exceed the criteria in that regard.

The game will contain all rules, data cards and materials to use direct from the tablet. The heart of this rules system will contain a computer-assist game referee and combat resolution module – again right on the tablet.

Why now? I tested and purchased an Apple iPad about a year ago and was simply amazed at the ease of use of the system itself and the Wow factors I experienced in using it for many applications. Clearly I think this is the direction a lot of things are going in to put it in a few words. The portability, mobility around the tabletop, flexibility of uses and phenomenal hand and finger workings of the tablet system lends itself very well to the play of games around the tabletop. Complex rules and charts will be a breeze to view in an instant and the referee and combat resolution programs that can be created to go with the app are simply outstanding pluses for speedy game mechanics and added enhancement of the gaming experience.

Please take a look at the Kickstarter campaign I'm running for the Ironclads game on the iPad and consider being a backer. If you are not an Ironclad fan yourself I apologise, but please pass this information to anyone close to you or who is in your gaming club or group that may appreciate hearing about this project. Help me spread the word as something like this is truly cutting edge and will be a boon for gaming in other periods and rules systems.

I'm available for answering any questions about the Kickstarter project and the planned Ironclads App.

Thank you.

Copy of our Update to Ironclads Kickstarter:
We have decided to add Android compatibility within our current funding goal! Other platforms are possible but will require stretch goals to achieve. Therefore the next most requested platform will be covered if we reach $26,500 USD in funding. Thank you so much for all your support!

The following was posted on The Miniatures Page yesterday in the ACW Ironclads discussion board:

"For all of us that want Android, if we don't fund it it won't happen. So come
on and help us all get a copy of it."

It is true and what Kickstarter is all about. I do not seek funding for the miniatures reward program which is what a lot of Kickstarter campaigns do. I seek it solely for the programming fees in order to have the game referee and
combat resolution modules as the most heart and soul of the new game.
Without the funding this will not happen. I do not intend to re-issue the game in any board format. This game originally started as a miniatures game by John
Fuseler back in the 70's before Yaquinto made it into a board game – not that anything is wrong with that. I just want to return it back into a miniatures
game, because that's what I like to do.
So often on this group the old Ironclads board game has been cited time and time again as "The" best rules for gaming the ACW period. The Ironclads Expansion set
along with the original Ironclads expanded the capabilities into the European transition and South American wars. It is not just ironclad combat as in Monitor vs Merrimac (CSS Virginia). It encompasses naval warfare throughout the
entire period 1850'a – 1885.
My goal by returning it back to miniatures with a
computer-assist module is to simply make a very good game better.
