Here are some photos of the buildings I am making for a Stalingrad game in 28mm. Made from foam core board, and a couple including the church and house with tile roof are wooden birdhouses from Michael's. For details I use balsa wood, cat litter, sand, wire mesh for windows.

I have been experimenting with different bases for these using peg board and recently adhesive vinyl floor tiles with textured surfaces. I have some problems with warping in the peg board, but the vinyl seems to be more flexible and can be reshaped easier. I have gone for a more stylized look leaving a lot of the ruble out to leave room for figures, but will try adding more in with the next one I do.
Hope you enjoy.

Looks good!

Those look excellent, well done mate.

Its the one thing that has always put me off 28mm Russian front wargaming, all those building to construct, paint and then store.

It is a bit daunting Raglan, I have been working on these over the past 5 years. It takes me about 8 hours to do one from start to finish. Storage is a bit of a problem for me as well it takes a pretty large box to keep these in so they don't get bashed.

I bet its an awesome sight to have a full table of buildings like yours, do you have photos of them all laid out?

Yes, I will take one tonight, I am up to about 6 now.
I am looking for some suitable roads that would look good with them that don't look cheap if you have any ideas thanks in advance.

The set-up looks really impressive, you are almost tempting me to give it a go.

Have you looked at Grand Manner for road sections?

Looks good Grossman. Is each section about a square foot?

I got a bunch of 28mm buildings from Battleworkstudios (who are unfortunately not making them anymore) a few years back and keep wanting to do something like this with them.

GROSSMAN03 Apr 2013 11:15 a.m. PST

Yes, they are all 12 x 12 squares of peg board or vinyl adhesive tile used in flooring $1.60 USD each at Lowe's. There are some with textured surfaces like stone, that dry brush up nicely.

jtkimmel04 Apr 2013 6:12 a.m. PST

Thanks, I had considered floor tile but was concerned about the weight. Have to make a trip to Home Depot.

GROSSMAN05 Apr 2013 8:46 a.m. PST

They weigh about the same as peg board or MDF I am talking about the thin vinyl tiles not actual tile.
