Sorry Bill,

Didn't know how to go about this, other than a PM, but thought the information would be useful to the community as a whole anyway.

I'm not surprised that account got suspended, if it's still tied to the York Street address. Tin Soldier in the city closed two years ago.

I don't doubt it's already been mentioned in posts elsewhere, but I thought folks might be interested to see the photo.

Sign says something about a Perth store and a website. Well, the website's gone, what about the Perth store?

DuckanCover30 Mar 2013 5:52 p.m. PST

I'm thinking that probably says (or is meant to say) "Penrith", in Western Sydney. I know there was a shop there, but I haven't actually walked through the door for a year or more, so couldn't say how it's doing.

"Tin Soldier Penrith" have a website:

tinsoldierpenrith.com.au (that's sure working)

and an email address:

theshop@tinsoldierpenrith.com.au

and, a telephone number:

02 4731 4623

C'mon Westies, anyone been out to Tin Soldier Penrith recently?

Edited to add-

Thanks for the cross-posting Bill. I didn't even think of that….

Very sad--it was a great store. They had the most complete collection of Old Glory figures I've ever seen. I figured there was no real point in my buying them and schlepping them back to the United States, but I sat on the floor and made notes of what would work for various projects I plan on.

Was a good store to pop into in it's heyday. lost the plot somewhat towards the end. unfortunately there is now no broad based wargames shop in Sydney proper. GW of course and Hobbyco but not the historicals that the Tin Soldier had. The Penrith store is not too bad. they moved last year to bigger premises and certainly seem to have a thriving gaming group and stock a big range of products both historical and scifi/ fantasy. Week ends are very busy with lots of games and customers. Worth a visit if you are out that way. I think the web has probably killed off the likely hood of another Tin Soldier type store in the city centre, ultra high rents don't help either.
Maybe I'm just a Luddite but I did like to wander in and pick up bits and pieces when in town…

"Was a good store to pop into in it's heyday."

Heck, back in the day, I used to think it was worth a train trip from Guildford or Mt Druitt, to the other side of the bridge, on at least two Saturdays mornings a month, when they were way over there.

Used to make a quick dash over there to see Mick, then back to Pitt St in the city proper, to visit Dennis (or Sylvia) at Napoleon's.

Gads, it used to be a challenge, when there was only half a day's trading on Saturdays.

Iconic early Sydney (Australian!) gaming fare.

It was always on my visit list when I was in Sydney visiting family. I guess next time I will have to trek out to Penrith.

The Penrith store is very good.
