I don't know if it just me, and whether being struck down with the lurgy for the last 2 weeks as lowered my tolerance levels, but I'm finding "fanbois" increasingly likely to be putting me off games that I've loved or are looking forward to. You know what I mean? Everything the writers have done is perfect, anyone who makes a comment that might suggest anything other than perfection is a "hater" and (my personal pet hate) "I don't mind what you make/write/sell, just keep doing it and I'll buy it". Oh, come ON!!! FFS, do you not have ANY standards????!!!!! Yes, I know I should just ignore it, maybe stop reading the various game related forums etc. But it bugs me alot, and I wondered if it bugged anyone else. (btw, before anyone asks, I'm NOT going to mention the rules/games concerned other than to saw that FoW is not involved :) ) |

No. I game with the same group of 6 or so people most of the time, the great unwashed internet masses don't much matter to me at all. |

Nope – I figure opinions are like earlobes, everyone has a couple |

David, I like your stuff a lot. |

I find fellow gamers who try to tell me how to deploy my force or what moves to make in a particular game turn more annoying than that. There was one bonehead who referred to me as "son" when it was pretty clear to me I was several years his senior. Fatheads like that just get to me. |

My enjoyment of a game has to do with either playing with toy soldiers that I have painted, or that my friends have painted. The tsorris and agita of the fans or detractors have nothing to do with it. Why should the opinion of someone I have never met effect my enjoyment of a game? |

I find lots of things about other people to be irritating, as they do about me, that is what makes us human. I am usually far too polite to say so though. Like John, it doesn't really impact on my wargaming, apart from avoiding playing with irritating people as far as possible. |

If the game is good enough, no. Not all of them are, however

If you're talking about people you're actually playing with it certainly would affect my enjoyment
my social time is far too precious to waste it on people that I'd find seriously irritating
I'm blessed with a small group that I socialize with regardless whether we're playing a game or having a pint. If it's a crew that happen to be in the club or whatever then "C'est la vie
" I can relate this situation a little more with football though
I loved playing so much I literally couldn't say no to a game and would regularly play 5 a sides every week with several different groups
but one bunch would spend most of the time fighting (physically and verbally) with each other, and it was only after several months of doing this I asked myself the very simple question:am I actually enjoying this experience and I found myself saying a very resounding "no". I never went back. Simples |

I have not had a wargame with a person I didn't already know quite well (i.e. a competition or tournament type game) in so long I can't remember the last time. Fanbois are fun to rile up though. |

I don't encounter that many. There was one guy I met in the early days of me getting into wargaming who would only play 7th Edition Ancients and wouldn't play any novices because he had to keep himself super-keen for the competitions. For him, 7th was the pinnacle of wargaming and nothing else could compare. More recently I found the vehement defence of 4th edition D&D by some fans really offputting. It's not that they defended their choice of game to the hilt, which I didn't mind, it's that they kept having to rubbish all other games and previous versions of D&D. They were adamant that the game system for 4th ed. was the best in RPG history. But my encounters with fanboys are few and far between. |

I tend to just avoid the fanboys. If I like the game I will play, if not I won't. Fanboys only come into that equation if I find myself playing against one. |

No, but this spelling does! |

I tend to just avoid the fanboys. Me too! |

Isn't "bois" forest in French? |

I am learning to gloss over stuff I dont want to hear. Focus on the good stuff. Everyone has an opinion and most of the are
.well you know. Lifes too short to let some dysfunctional git 500+ miles away who has social interaction problems worry you. BTW I wouldnt suggest facebook, no matter how closely you watch your page, idiots get in and do annoy you

No, but this spelling does! I like it, at least the idea of an alternate spelling, seems very appropriate. Ending with a 'z' would be even better, or you could just condense it to 'FNBZ'. Isn't "bois" forest in French? Yes, you could pronounce it 'faun-BWAH', great! |

Having a shop, I deal with all kind of fanboys every day. I've learnt to listen politely, feigning interest, and as soon as the pay their stuff and leave the shop, forgot all they have said. So no, fanboys don't annoy me at all. At least, not anymore. |

"bois" is not forest (= foret) but "wood" As in "Il y a une tete de bois" :) |
