Thanks Thomas, I've found that this works on all scales. I have just finished a King Tiger in 1/35ht using the same method!

Very timely – I am starting work on a bunch of Bren gun carriers for the Little Prince's Canadian infantry, so will certainly try this out!

Excellent, that is very similar to what I do (except I use dark brown ink instead of black).

Thanks chaps, Fredrick, I'm glad it was of some use. Martin, I think it is just a case of dulling the coat of metallic paint really. I might give brown a try sometime though and compare the results.
