I really love this game X-Wing, and the prospect of big battles soooo enthralls me,despite the fact that my main two opponents are # 1) My son 2) My self In the past, I'd usually divide my gaming $'s between Revolutionary War and World War Two mini's, but not this year it seems. The majority is going to Fantasy Flight Games. And I have to say, well deserved to them, they put out a product that I will happily support
bastards
. Kind regards Anthon |

I appear to be in the same boat. Check out the solo rules thread for some automated opponents. |

I have my Solo rules on our website if you would rather play with your son rather than against him! They are at link ..Which is one of the links Surferdude (thanks!)was directing you to. The How to play them blog post is on my blog at: link – I hope you (and everyone who has downloaded them) enjoys the system!? Happy gaming! |

Have you thought of running some demo games at a local game/comic store? Might help you grow yourself some opponents. :) I play A Call to Arms Star Fleet, and let me tell you, opponents are scarce. I have been working hard teaching the game at store demos and have run some convention games. |

Would those be Han Solo rules??? Eric

"Hi my name is _____________ and I am a game fanatic
. It all started
." I have a bunch as well, but for convention play, so the above statement does not apply to me.. However, I shudder to think of all the Mechwarrior stuff I have in storage :P |

I play A Call to Arms Star Fleet, and let me tell you, opponents are scarce. There are reasons for that. Comparing X-Wing and ACTA SFU, the minis are almost the same retail price on average, but X-Wing is painted and perfectly useable right out of the box, where SFU isn't. Moreover, X-Wing has an actual Star Wars license, not a tangential one – ACTA SFU just looks sort of like TOS, and due to legal issues the universe implodes if the word "Trek" is ever used in conjunction with it. No canonical stuff from the movies, nothing past TOS, not even prequel stuff from Enterprise – I've heard people describe SFU as a Trek fan fiction game, it's so far off canon. IME that makes it a very hard sell to the Trek fans that should be its natural audience. Even the local SFB/FedCom community is wary of it – too many differences for their tastes, and either too much invested in 2400 or no interest in minis at all. And if you think it's bad now, wait till the Trek Attack Wing game comes out. May not boom as big as X-Wing, but I doubt it'll flop unless WizKids really screws up on the rules mods. |

You aren't the only one. A day after getting my first set, I ordered another core set. And a y wing. And a TIE advanced. Even though I have no one to play with. |

I look forward to the day when my son is old enough to play with me
. and I can use him as an excuse to buy my cool toys! I envy you. |

If and when the stores get back in the Tie Interceptors and A wings my next order will put me over 100 fighters. So I hear you man I hear you. VR James Mattes |

How do you play with that many ships? I once suggested grouping them into small squadrons of 4 ships and moving and firing them based on the squadron leader's pilot rating, but I was quickly shot down :) Still think its a workable idea

And I just discovered that if you buy ships from foreign lands, you could build flights of German, French, Spanish, Polish. Italian, Mandarin

Player control wings with a good number of ships. Larger tables 6 by X feet for the full trench run and the second Death Star. 3-4 GMs running the event. My sons and I regularly game with up to about 30 ships on the table between the three of us and more when my son's scout troop members are over. VR James Mattes |

I can see having 30 ships on the table, but 2 Death Stars?!?
 |
| vojvoda | 29 Mar 2013 8:23 p.m. PST |
Yes but only if they are to scale! No the Death Stars are reference to the scenarios. I do have the canton OOB from the movies and books. There were several other actions involved but not shown in the movies. VR James Mattes |

James – that's a lot of ships. Pretty cool that you guys can pull that off. |

I guess on the plus side, they're saving me a lot of money (not that I really have any), since it appears Wave 2 fighters are sold out, and/or not available. A shame, but I guess I'll just have to press forward with the diecast minis I have, which is probably a good thing. On the plus side, I can play hypothetical Wave 3 and/or 4 battles now, in a 2x larger scale. I hope these don't go the way of their WWI aircraft, which are getting harder and harder to find in stock, and sell out before people have a decent chance of buying a few. |
| Lord Ashram | 05 Apr 2013 7:25 a.m. PST |
Yeah, what's up with the A-Wings and Interceptors being sold out? I assume they will be making more? If not, that is a big load of bull, and I would sour on the game and its makers VERY very quickly. Mattes, I blame you, btw. |
| Cincinnatus | 05 Apr 2013 4:30 p.m. PST |
I'm sure it's just a temporary unavailability thing. The local stores here got just enough to fill their pre-orders except for the MF. I can't see why they wouldn't just make more. |
