I never seem to get to the basement to get any painting done. If I pack it upstairs then it turns into a crap pile in the living room. My girl friend would be happy with something that stores my stuff and can be rolled out of the way.

my current favorite choice is

But I do not think it is sturdy enough. Any suggestions?

If you use carpenter's glue as well as the screws (or other fasteners) to build it then it should be sturdy enough. My wife has a sewing machine stand that I put together many, many years ago that is still very sturdy, even when rolled around on your carpeted floor.

WAY WAY better idea…. I have had a design for a mobile station that I can show you and you can build from a LARGE tackle box.

GET A PLANO 758 and I'll show you how to mobilize it. email me at looking at imagineimage dot org

ps.. it's the coolest idea that no one knows about.

Micman: We have one of those. They are very handy. Will store lots of paint, flock, WIP, etc. A mobile tackle box could be cool but very limiting. Where do you keep spray cans? That table has plenty of room….

I use this thing from Ikea. I keep it packed with lead and supplies and 6+ years later it is still solid. I find the top drawer just the right height to work on when seated in my comfy chair. link

I think the wheels would be a problem -- tiny plastic wheels help move the thing once in awhile, assuming the floor is clear. But if you're moving it a lot they'll be problematic. You want something that will roll over a couple of extension cords, for example, or carpet sill, over and over again, with no problem.

I'd be thinking about something like this: link

Sturdy, large wheels, and adjustable shelves.

While I love Plano products I would not like it in living room all the time.

A Twiningham, That was my 2nd choice, but got vetoed……

Oberst Radl, I have one of those in the basement. See the Plano comment above.

Thanks EC, how are the drawers holding up? I do not see any slides on them.

Great idea if you ask me. Before installing the casters that come with it, run down to the hardware store and see what kind of upgrades will fit.

This one seems to be the current leader as she found it.

Ah, well if the 17 1/4" measurement is width of the "column" of the drawers, you'd be able to get right up there and paint (although I'd watch knife storage!). And I'd still look at replacing the casters (if it has a socket for a rod, you can buy replacement casters at the hardware store). But it looks nice and if she's happy, you're happy.

The drawers run on long slats. Holding up great.
