HMGS-Midwest members will be voting this year on making some changes to their bylaws. In the past a member of the Board Of Directors could only serve 6 consecutive years. That restriction will be removed under the change.

The reason for the change is simple. It has become increasing difficult to find qualified and interested members to serve. Lack of interest and desire.

BULL. There's a TON of interest. There's a TON of desire. There are a TON of qualified people. What's missing?

The following should be the criterion for this position:

a. Must be unattached or if attached have a spouse that is really busy and probably have no kids.
b. Must not live further than 30 miles from the typical meeting location.
c. Should have a 7-3pm weekday job and be free on as many weekends as possible.
d. Must be healthy and have good personable skills with all ages and peoples from all countries and religions.
e. Should be reasonably decaffeinated.
f. Should be familiar and adept at electronic publishing.
g. Should be an advanced communicator and have presentation skills and public speaking aptitude.
h. Should be heavily historically-minded but have a great interest in all-things not historical as well.
i. Should have a familiarity with the hospitality industry; hotels, venues, food service.
j. Be able to make decisions quickly.
k. Be able to admit wrong-doing and notify persons of intentions before doing them (team player)
l. Must be solicitous of differing views.
m. Must show ability to commit to a schedule, plan, and produce balance in the game space.

Hmm. A removal of term limits is not a good thing anyway given the relative clique environments and egos that seem to pervade these organizations. Term limit removal can lead to uncomfortable environments and fiat decision-making. Frankly, the term limit should be 3 years, not 6 – change of laundry and all that and the option of fresh-air for the community if they desire it should be available frequently or so I figure.

I find the contention of a limitation of "qualified" or "interested" people as depressing as it is untrue. Obviously, if companycmd is energetic enough to reply here, then he should be given a shot assuming he fits the above. If not, then perhaps there are reasons why qualified or interested people are not involved.

However, and on the other hand, that if the HMGS organization is considering the removal of term limits, doesn't it follow that there is a decided lack of interest by the community at-large already and thereby mean the group has already, for lack of a better term, devolved into a close-community of neighbors rather than a more open organization willing to entertain the candidacy of relatively unknown individuals?

Shrug. Just pondering here. Not trying to start a war. Thank you lasalle012 for informing us of this impending action.

hmmm. Maybe it is time… naa no one would vote for me and it would be embarrasing. I think I got one vote other than myself when the voting was held at Rochelle.

Besides I'd only do it on the condition that the con show movies or Best of Youtube Miniatures Videos or some such nonsense and people would say "who is coming up with these ideas.." and I'd be ushered out of service.

You got mustard out, and now you're playing ketchup.
You're in a real pickle.
I certainly don't relish that situation.

The TONS of responses from those interested and the desire to step up and volunteer is overwhelming.
