Among the possible topics for a solitaire game in the Napoleonic period (or other) are the battles and campaigns.

The idea is to make a solo campaign. Apart from the rules to apply (Two Hour Wargames, etc.), the idea basis is make the 1809 campaign (Bavaria) BUT from the perspective of one of Napoleon's generals (or Charles). I mean: I have my corps and I have (previously) received orders and a series of events (random or not) develop my "part" of campaign inside the "big" campaign, that is based on other events and have a final conclusion. The possibility apart of developing battles (with a 3rd party program or not, or miniatures) with enemy units or supporting friendly units.

I think one advantage is to have the feeling of taking part in a historic campaign without the complexity of the CinC and to regulate the total number of troops and logistics that involves.

I do not know if you guys have any experience with the idea or equivalent idea.

Any comments will be greatly appreciated

Take a look at the "Generalship Game" in "Napoleonic Wargames for Fun" by Paddy Griffith.

"Longstreet". For the ACW, hits the shelves sometime this fall. Play a brigade commander and work your way up. Looks good. Yes I know it's not for Naps, but it could probably be modified.

There was a campaign idea in the old Warrior Kings rules from Two Hour Wargames. It was for a campaign set in Spain during El Cid's time. The premise was that kings (dice) decided who was at war with who and when to sue for peace. The players just fought the battles.

Hmm, not that much help… but perhaps make up three plans of action for a side every time you think a decision point is reached or after X number of turns have passed since the last decision. Have one plan be cautious, one mainstream and the other bold to the point of rashness. Roll 2D6. On a roll of 2-4, the cautious plan is followed. On 5 – 9, the mainstream plan is adopted. On a roll of 10+, throw caution to the winds.

You could give modifiers for generals, like +1 or +2 for Napoleon, since he was a gambler, and -1 for any of Charles' brothers.

If the two plans adopted will obviously end the campaign, well, it's a solo game. Roll again.

An easy way to do this would be to select your corps and hit the books. Find out which actions it participated in and which it nearly did, etc.

That will give you a set of scenarios to play and the order in which to play them.

Now the idea here is not to recreate the entirety of a battle but only that part your unit was involved in.

Then you can play them in order awarding yourself points for win/draw/lose with an extra point if you won when your historical counterpart lost.

That's the very simple way to do it but not sure if that will be fulfilling (right word?)?

There are other, more involved ways, to do this using maps and what not. Then you need to work out how the enemy and your non-player friendly forces will act and react to your forces and to each other.

Hope this post is helpful…

Margard, I'll try to see this text.

mad monkey 1, you mean "Longstreet" by Sam Mustafa? Looks a good idea, but it's coming in the second half of 2013, i think.

vtsaogames, I've thought to add also "events" to modify this. For example: I have this 2d6 order, in three categories, or more concret "Occupy Regensburg in turn 4", playing as Marshal Davout. Every X turns take an event "card", to modify this (Nap's orders, enemy units presence or support another friendly unit) or perhaps is too complex?

M C LeSingeDew, at first point you mean to connect escenarios historically in a linear way. I see more interesting your second option, using maps (I think point to point map) who lets to play with another factors: weather, supply lines, distances, etc.

Thank you so much to everyone for your commentaries, I have now various options to work.

This game is very much like Kriegspie and gives you period maps on which to mark movement. No hexes etc, just plotting positions on a map.

It is designed for two sides and an upmpire, However with a little work it provides a great toolbox for solo gaming.

This volume does not cover 1809.

The original volume: link

does and can still be found out there with a little digging.

Hope this helps.

Thanks, M C LeSingeDew. I knew "Le vol de l'Aigle" series but needs an umpire to play effectively, and I was interested in 1809 campaign too.
