Hi I am thinking of doing Plains war skirmishing at 28mm and to keep the cost down was wondering if anybody knows of a company that does Hard Plastic figures like Perrys etc for this era
.

Thanks Phil

If it is skirmish gaming I would go with 54mm toy soldiers, you could use recast Airfix cavalry and there are a ton of great manufacturers of Indians.
Another way to go is if you have or know somebody with an Old Glory card you can get figures at a great discount.
but I don't know of any company that does 28mm Plains Indians in plastic.

I don't think anyone makes plastics in 25/28mm. For plastics, look at 54s or 1/72.

Hi Cavcrazy 54mm is a little to big for me. The idea is to have 25 to 73 figures a side. I notice that Perry do American civil war Cavalry that I could convert.

The Perry plastic Civil War cavalry set would make easy conversions for this period for the US cavalry. There aren't any plastic Indians yet but you might be able to get the horses from Wargames Factory as they sell individual horses in plastic. Then it would be just a matter of getting the Indian riders.

Don't know where outside of little big horn where you would need many mounted Indians.

It would be easy to convert heads over from Western to Plastic US Cavlary. I could see this in 40mm with Sash and Saber but who makes Indians in 40mm?

I really know of few if any mounted cavalry vs mounted indians in the West. I could be wrong but most were pretty much dismounted when contact was made by the US (unless you count sweeping through Indian villages and encampemts). And ever more rare were Indians being ambushed by Cavalry.

Mounted cavalry and plains indians clashed constantly in frontal assualt -- I saw it in the movies over and over growing up and Hollywood would never lie !!!!
Indians also ride around and around wagon trains going no where in particular --just to get easily picked off --extremely brave and neat looking even if a little stupid?

Just as well I play at the time of the 1876 Campaign then.

Indians must also ride counter-clockwise, like a carousel, when attacking wagon trains or dismounted cavalry.

Secondly, you may use Greeks, Spaniards, or Italians for Indians, but not many actual hard plastic Indians for Indians (unless you have a Jay Silverheels, then that's OK).
