Very interesting.

Is the figure in the top hat the same person in the various pictures? His costume and equipment varies in each picture. Sometimes he has a sabre but is also shown with a straight sword; sometimes in a short sleeved coat and sometimes with albanian sleeves. Is there any indication in the text that he is a stradiot or from the balkans?

Maximilian was not the most subtle of men, when it came to authoring. On the other side he probably had sufficient real life problems on hand that not refining is prosa can be vindicated.
Thanks for the link. I always wondered whether the coloration was sanctioned by Maximilian or later artistic license…
