Hi! Over the last couple of weeks I have been playing a small campaign with my Space Orks using 2nd edition Warhammer 40k rules. I has been a joyful ride. I appreciate the utter randomness and lack of balance of this game. Here are some images from the different games and some links to write ups:
Part 1: Orks are besieged by Dark Angels link
Part 2: The Orks invade a nearby hive in frustration link
Part 3: The Orks try to get even with the Dark Angels after getting out of the hive again link (This report even features a video!) All the best and hope you enjoy

Orks were so much fun in the old days "40 greachen in a battle wagon armed with auto guns" :) killing off a squad of SM in one turn because they jumped out into the open LOL
I do so miss playing that game. |

Well, the game doesn't care that new editions have arrived. Neither do the miniatures. Both work perfectly well still. :-D Give it a go. I my neighbourhood they've gone from 'retro rules' to 'the rules we use because we actually like them'

Very cool. We still enjoy playing 2nd edition. Love the proper ork style buildings |

I never liked 2nd Edition for the exact reasons you DO like it. Too random, unbalanced, and absolutely no victory conditions. It failed as a game completely for me, except for the flavor, which kept me coming back for subsequent versions. It's cool to see somebody playing 2nd and great you are feeling the old joy again, though! Jerry |

Yes, I believe that is the view of the vast majority as well. No doubt. You must have felt strongly for it though, when you choose to reply just to say you don't like it. ;-D I think I regard it more as a story that just happens when you play, rather than a game you have to break. Peace |

Ahh, inspired me to get back to work on my 2nd edition Space Orks. 2nd ed, the only way to play 40k! |

I now find myself extremely tempted to introduce some concepts from 2E WH40K into Paradox, either as an all-up change, or for some variation adapted to fit with 40k. I have wood parque in part of my house that would work perfectly for full-scale games on grids

For utter randomness and lack of balance, it can't be beat! I still prefer 1st edition, but 2nd is okay in a pinch. Only problem with PLAYING second edition is you have to have all those cards for everything (vehicles, wargear, psionics, etc
) making it difficult to aquire and distribute the rules to potential new players. I detest 40K 3rd edition (and forward), but the 'all-in-one rules book' (with army lists, mind you) is a superior approach. You could play to win or play to have fun, but not both! Good memories, but I'm not sure I could play 2nd edition again. |

Cool ! Thanks for sharing. I still play 2nd edition with a friend. oll.free.fr/Imagifig/?tag=wh40k The mission cards are not bad and the overwatch and more detailed rules are good. I just tried 3rd edition that I found a bit tasteless. |
