I have acquired my new Prussian Army (I still too busy painting my Russians so time not enough with all 1813 battles to be had) and need to understand the flags the units carried. I have no information on them except lots of 1806/7 material. 1) Since some of the infantry regiments still retained their 1806 colours did the cavalry carry their 1806 colours as well? What are some good sources? 2) Did the landwehr carry a flag and if so what are some good sources for it? thanks in advance MG |

Yep, mostly 1806-style flags. The Prussian army after 1806 was based on the regiments that didn't fold during that campaign. They mostly kept the old flags, both foot and horse. Landwehr flags are a source of much mystery. There are reports and examples of flags given to the Landwehr in 1813, but others (where's summerfield when you need him?) say that while some got flags, they didn't actually carry them in the field. |

This may be useful: link There are no Landwehr cavalry standards which survived, so we don't know what the few whose existence is noted here and there, really looked like. Most of these weren't carried after September 1813 anyway. |

As Oliver has said that there were no Landwehr flags. Flags and standards were the pride of the Regiment. They were too precious to waste upon Light Cavalry that was considered so brittle in battle. That often fought in dispersed formations or in detachments. Stephen |

Thank you everyone! @Oliver Schmidt Great source! I am surprised this didn't show up in my initial searches. MG |
