I'm taking the plunge and ordering up my 6mm armies. Can anyone tell me, with a reasonable degree of accuracy, exactly how wide are the infantry and cavalry strips? I am planning out my base order and I want to go off of the strip size and not any particular set of rules.

It varies, depending on unit type and rank spacing, but here's what my Roman and Dacians are (granted, these are the old sculpts, but I doubt the dimensions have changed):

Close order infantry is 20mm wide.

Skirmishers are 30mm long, but intended to be clipped apart.

Cavalry are 40 mm long, but intended to be clipped apart.

According to Baccus website, strips are 20 mm wide, with 4 infantry or 3 cavalry per strip. The Polemos rules ( from Baccus) normally use 60 mm x 30 mm bases.

Does not really matter which rules you want to use. Baccus packs are designed to fit four battalions of infantry on four bases 60x30 or five bases of cavalry. So it's another no brainer, four bases for every close order infantry bag and five bases for every cavalry bag.

You can pack cavalry on closer together – I've seen up to 12 Baccus cavalry on a 60mm base in a single rank. Probaly that is too dense for every figure type but 10 or 11 is possible with almost all those I have worked with.

Regular order infantry can easily can easily be clipped into individual figures if needed.

If this is your first experience with Baccus I would suggest that you read their FAQ section that will give you lots of ideas n how to pint and base your figures. Even experienced 6mm fans will learn things.
