Nice figures, too bad the 39th New York was so worthless early in the War. They got better later on (or at least they didn't mutiny again.)

I wonder if those figures could be used for the Risorgimento?

How long did the GG keep their distinctive uniforms?

Not long as I recall. I believe they changed to standard uniforms after the Harpers Ferry debacle in 1862. Possibly earlier.

Curious that folks seems inclined to only want for their collection elite units with interesting uniforms. I want units with interesting uniforms no matter how good or bad they were during the war. Same with time frame as well. I'm ok if a unit only wore a unique uniform during the first 3 months of the war and in one battle, I still want a painted unit representing it!

I'm somewhat in the extreme in that regards I suppose, but in my collecting I'm advanced enough that I can focus on the extremes and not have it be a drain on what's really important. I have thousands of standard uniformed infantry and cav for both sides so for the past year or so I've been focusing on the obscure stuff (and no the Iron Brigade doesn't count as obscure). Stuff like USCT, early war uniforms, signal corp, hospitals and engineer/pioneer units, pontoon bridges, observation balloons, troops in entirely civilian clothing, correctly modeled mountain howitzers, mule teams, etc. The good stuff! :)

I actually have a unit of the 39th painted up but the figures are older and don't exactly match my OG stuff as nicely as I'd like. In the heat of battle you can't really tell but it depends on how crazy about it you are. I'm glad to have them at all which is a start!
