Hello all,

I just bought a fantastic book about 6 FJD called "The Lions of Carentan". Now, my question is that I am painting my 28mm Fallschirmjagers to mimic the 6th. Would I be able to incorporate early, mid, and late war uniforms and equipment? Next, what Vallejo colors would you all recommend? I'm a first time poster, so please be gentle. Thanks all, Steve

Being a veteran unit, mixing early mid and late gear would be quite appropriate. For the earlier jump smocks you could use VMC Green Grey, while for the camo ones Vallejo has just released a group of colours (in their Panzer Series) specific for the German Splinter Pattern camo (Base, Splotches 1, Splotches 2 and Stripes).
You could add variations also in the colours of the breadbags and water bottles, using Luftwaffe Blue or beige/browns for more recent items, and in the trousers, adding some blue ones in the middle of Field Grey ones

This article on painting splinter pattern by Resistant Roosters is very good – also lists the Vallejo colors. PDF link
I believe they also have the tutorial for the tan/water pattern too, which would also have been worn.

I would be remiss if I didn't correct myself. I'm painting my Fallschirmjagers to moadel the 6th Fallschirmjager Regiment, of the 2nd Fallschirmjager Division. I did not want to dishonor the memory of those who served.

By June 1944 the 6th FJR consisted of a high number of fresh recruits, non-jump trained. Look at some of the photos in "Lions" and you will see some young faces. As a result the depots from which they drew their equipment supplied them with whatever was on hand. As mentioned in a previous post, early-mid equipment would be appropriate. True veterans preferred the early grey/green jump smock as it provided more warmth than the camo patterns.

Thank you Ducel. I'll post some pics as I progress.
