So I was thinking of building a Gran Colombian Army in 10mm does anyone know which nation the Gran Colombians model their army off of? |

What years? Liberation uniforms were based on Spanish uniforms. |

Unfortunately, Armand, that website is woefully inaccurate, at least as far as the independence era uniforms. A few years back I got my hands on the related book on the history of Colombian army uniforms – official army document, etc. – equally horrible vis a vis independence. I don't think the author/researcher even went to the trouble of checking the most easily available sources, much less did in the archives in Bogota, which undoubtedly includes all kinds of great material that has never been published. Indeed, he seems to have contented himself with simply wandering this display gallery
Gran Colombian uniforms were based off the 1813 Venezuelan Regulations issued by Bolivar. In the most basic terms it was a uniform blue color, usually red facing scheme between all branches with minor variations (addition of an embroidered symbol, button color, jacket style) depending on the branch of service/type of troop. Lack of supplies and secure production facilities prohibited widespread use of these uniforms until Bolivar took Bogota in August 1819. In September he ordered a pretty complete overhaul of his forces – organization, uniforms, etc. By 1820/21 the entire army more or less wore these uniforms. Until that time the troops used a hodgepodge of uniforms or simply wore peasant/civilian dress (represented by the mannequin in white with the straw hat). You can find more information in my book "Adventures of the British & Irish Legions in South America 1817-1824" at the Grenadier Productions website and the topic will be addressed in specific detail in the upcoming "War in the North".
