I'm searching through internet sources and book refs on the Ikko Ikki, but does anybodty have names of the clans who allied with the movement, even better colour refernces sources etc, cheers. Am creating a combined Samurai/ Ikko Ikki force for SAGA and want to try and match the clan mon as accurately as possible. Cheers Jon |

I have this book at home. Will take a look when I have a chance. Its well worth the price if you dont have it: link Just from recall, I know Takeda Shingen allied with and incited Etchu Ikko Ikki to attack Uesugi Kenshin as a diversionary attack to keep Kenshin busy. Ill post more if I find it. Ive always wanted to do an Ikko army as well, either for the battles against Oda Nobunaga or in Kaga against the Asakura. |

Some useful info on allied clans here. They list the "Asakura" as an ally, but from what I recall the two constanly warred in the early 1500's: link |

Uesugi: that looks like a really interesting book! I've never seen it before, so thanks for posting about it so I can pick it up. :) I also checked the list on wikipedia, and it sure does seem like a "guys who had a bone to pick with Oda Nobunaga" list. I really want to read up more on how much of the support that the Ikko got that was based on making life miserable for your neighbour. |

You are most welcome Setsuko! Its one of the better Sengoku books I've read. Yes, though the Ikko were strictly anti-samurai in theory, they were not above joining with various clans to combat Nobunagas growing power. They eventually even were in league with the deposed Shogun. |

Uesugi, many thanks for the link on the book, will deffinitly be worth checking out on Amazon. At the moment just rekindling interest in the period after a long break. Have just ordered "Samurai Warfare'' as a means of getting back into the period. What I'm after is info on the smaller lower order clans and Samurai that would have joined the Ikki, mons, colours etc; what sort of numbers would each clan provide? Did the Samurai have mon or would they have worn/ carried religious text based Sahimono and banners instead? The Ikki certainly seems top offer huge variety as a gaming force with it's blend of monks, Samurai and the Ikki. Thanks for the support guys. |

OK, here's what I came up with for allied clans/ samurai. Mind you, these weren't all at the same time AND some of these clans fought the Ikko before they were allies. In 1531 they invaded Kaga with assistance from samurai from "Noto. Etchu, and Echizen." Later allies were: Togashi Masachika, Miyoshi Yoshitsugu, Shimotsuna Nakayuki, Ashikaga Shogunate, Asakura, Asai, Mori, Uesugi, Takeda, Saiga ronin (gunner specialists), Suzuki, Ota Munemasa. As to banners and sashimono, the allied clans would have used their own devices. The Ikko used religious slogans and pictures both on their banners and sashimono (as depicted in several of Turnbulls books). Hope that helps Chaps! U.K. |
