Considering starting this period in the near future, just one thing I need to know, who makes the best figures on the market at the moment with all troop types covered ? So you know my taste in figures I'm looking for something like AB or Eureka |

Best are Testudo and Khurasan although the latter are specifically for the TYW. Khurasan bought the Testudo range and have not yet seen it on their website. Pete Dalby - peterdalby@talktalk.net was the UK distributor, not sure if he still does as I am full of 15mm ECW/TYW! The Khurasan Inf are smaller than Testudo, but their Cav are bigger than Testudo. All lovely figures, Tally Ho! |

Donnington's range is an older one but is very solid, and can mix with Testudo because the figures are chunky. Those three stand apart. Old Glory have a broad range for TYW/ECW and are the cheapest of all the ranges. They are not quite large enough to mix freely with Testudo, etc., and are too large to mix with the next group of ranges. An exception to this might be Lancashire. Your next group are Essex, Matchlock, Minifig, which Can all mix. Peter Pig is a bit smaller than them but nice. Go look at this site for good comparison photos: link |

Also small figures but very nice and extensive range: link Old Frei Corps range, not ECW range and TYW & ECW range Tally Ho! |

Peter Pig does make a nice range but they are more of a true 15mm. All mine are Essex I am quite happy with them though I do have some Chariot and Minifig mixed in. I may unload the chariot ones they are noticably smaller than the Essex and don't really look right. Naismith makes a decent range as well but I think the cavalyry riders are undersized. |

Testudo was recently acquired by Khurasan, which is a big deal for their future availability. I just decided to go with Old Glory for my project, weighing cost, availability, and completeness of the ranges. |

Stone Mountain has a small range of ECW figures that aren't on the website yet. Drop me an email with your snail mail address and I will send you a sample figure and list. Complete listing and photos should be up on the site in the next several months. Dave mail@HistoricalMiniatures.com |

I would like to thank you all for your counsel, Dave thanks for your offer however as I'm in the UK I feel safer ordering figures from either the UK or EU as 20% tax plus customs handling can serious affect my stress levels, same applies to Khursan, I dont feel Old Glory have a consistant standard, so that leaves Matchlock unless there is something new on the horizon |

I would follow Nick's suggestion here on the old Frei Korp range from QRF. Rather splendid and the 'new' ECW QRF range is useful too unless you want Covenanter cavalry in which case look elsewhere. |

Museum has a nice range. Get some samples. I like their size. They are a joy to paint. link Most pf my ECW armies are Museum, with some Essex horse and Donnington foote |

Once again many thanks for the advice and offers, ordered some Matchlock figures, as the figures look nice and they seem to have a full and varied range |

As well as photos there is a list of all the 15mm manufacturers of renaissance figures on my site Www.madaxeman.com Tim |

Go 10mm with Pendraken, they have some lovely figures and just added more cavalry too. Also a lot more figures for your pennies, use same base sizes as larger scales and it looks like an army rather than a skirmish |

Just run some more moulds off with 15mm figures in and some ECW and Renaissance are in them only 230 moulds left to go. Will put some new pictures on my blog when I have catalogue them . link |

The Viking Forge produces the Asgard 15mm Renaissance range and some of the Matchlock 15mm ECW range. link link |

Anyone else think that some of those ECW figures (the ones that aren't Matchlock) look very similar to 2nd Generation Minifigs? In style, I mean, not exact copies of anything. |

Asgard figures were the mainstay of the local 15mm Renaissance scene here in South Australia back in the early 80s, because they were manufactured locally under license. The sculptor was probably the same as used by Minifigs for the first generation of its 'Super Detail' 15mm range. I think a lot of people forget that Minifigs' 15mm individually cast ranges had two iterations. |
