I just saw this, so apologies if it has already been posted. link |

Hmmmm, interesting
Kind of disappointed they appear to have stopped with their themed games (D-Day, Battle Of The Bulge, Guadalcanal) – they all had interesting mechanisms in them. |

Avalon Hill games. The memories, the memories. |

Someone did a review and how much fun they had playing for 10 hours. That just cost them a sale. 10 hours! Holy cow batman. I work 10 hours a day. Not like I want to unwind with any game that takes 10 hours. Marathon's are for ancient Greeks bearing messages and health nuts. |

I guess redshirt just answered my thoughts on buying this. I have not played A&A since I was a kid (I am now 67). I remember the game fondly though anything beyond the fact that it was area movement has slipped from my graying memory. Did the original take 10 hours? Even though I am retired I have no interest in games of that length. Perhaps there are scenarios in the WWI version that could be played in a shorter period. If so I will give this another look. |

I have to wonder if a ten hour game is atypical or the "monster game." I would think that it can be played in less time or broken down by front, etc. |

It defeinately does NOT have to take 10 hours to play. In fact, I would say that'll be very unlikely for the vast majority of gaming groups. Our game group has played AA50th Anniversary Edition games in an average of 4-6 hours, and compared to the original A&A and this new 1914 version AA50th is meant to be a much longer game. Perhaps the first run-through may take some people quite a while. Plus the vagaries of player interactions that could slow ANY game down (I've had the same game take 5x as long with different groups just because of how the players behave during games). That being said, we're playing this game TONIGHT, so it had best not take that long (work night an dall that). |

Let us know how the game went Rorschach. I've been wanting a WW1 one version of A&A for years. |

I am much more interested in this than the WWII version. |

Here, too. Though I am not farmiliar with any of the A&A family since the 1st ed/"Game Master" version, I would think the mechanics would go hand-in-glove with the Great War. I would also love to hear back from Rorschach on the matter! |

headed off for the game in about a half an hour. I will report tomorrow most likely (I intend on taking a bunch of pictures, turn by turn and writing up a bat-rep so-to-speak and my thoughts on the new game). |

Looking forward to it. Thanks. |

Good game last night. Review posted here; link It's long, but I go into detail about some of the special mechanics and each game turn we played. While we did not meet the victory conditions it seemed fairly certain who was going to win so we ended the game at Turn 5 (4 hours). Realizing this was our first time playing the game, with many new rules and mechanics to deal with AND one player who takes FOREVER to play his turns (seriously .. almost a half an hour at one point just for him to decide what to do as the UK????) 4 hours was not bad. It can DEFINATELY be played a lot faster and to completion. |

He was last to turn up – so they popped him in at the front – that is why he looks bigger. |
