I'm painting the Lützow Freikorps at the moment. But I'm in dout wether they have red stripes on their trousers or not.

In Dr. S. Summerfields book (excellent book buy the way, I just bought it) he mentions red seam on the trousers, but none of the illustrations in the book show any red seams. Other sources say black trousers without red seam.

None of the pictures on the internet when google show red seams.
But if you look at the pictures of reenactmentgroups they have red seam.

So what to do?

Best regards
Claus

I put red stripes on mine.

The red seam may have been missed by observers unless really up close. Personally I think coloured stripes or seams on trousers are cool so I would paint them on. What self-respecting romantic poet/warrior/volunteer would not want such a detail?

Like the "Go faster stripes" teenagers put on their cars?

Dear Claus
It depends upon the type of trousers whether it had a red stripe. I will look back at what I wrote.

Given these volunteers often had to dress themselves, I doubt uniformity.

Uniform plates show them, go for it, I did.

I put red stripes on mine, I even gave them flags (of which I'm not sure they had any of )…..but hey a bit of artistic license for these guys, I'm sure they wouldn't have mined that.

Thank you all.

I'll go for the red stripes.
