I see it's up for order. has anyone picked it up yet? Can you Give a review? I WANT to love it…

Maddaz11117 Mar 2013 10:56 a.m. PST

I kickstarted it, and still not been sent my copy. (UK based so it will probably be months in Customs)

I still like classic traveller – and the megatraveller extension of the background to living in interesting times.

I hope I will love it.

Yeah I started with the LBBs back in '80. The Mongoose rev is pretty good, but it's really just a restatement of the old LBBs.

Where is it up for order? The kickstarter page or somewhere else? There is so much noise on the web it's impossible to find. Marc Miller should pull all of his own older material and focus on pushing the new Traveller 5 brand, but that's just my opinion.

I swear the Traveller Internet presence needs a good solid cleaning out and reorg, ESPECIALLY from Marc's side.

His order page needs a clear statement of where everything is at. He should also get some reviews of the Book up.

Ok, got an email back from Marc. He is shipping the Backlog now and all new orders are shipping on April 2.

At $160.00 USD? Not a damn chance!

Only Warlock17 Mar 2013 3:22 p.m. PST

Well, in the US it's $75 USD with Shipping and includes a CD copy and the final version is over 650 pp Hardcover.

I just wish he'd unsubscribe me from his blasted mailing list. I ordered something ages ago and he put me on his T5 listserv.

Which refuses to unsubscribe me.

Ever.

I tried other iterations of Traveller and keep going back to the original LBBs. Personally, IMO, they are the best.

Mako1117 Mar 2013 5:29 p.m. PST

Actually, $100 USD for the bundle, but given the amount of content, that still is not bad, especially compared to various other rules offerings of late.

The original LBBs remain my favorites as well… no specified setting though there is definitely an implied aesthetic. Still, it feels wide open for a creative GM.
I was never an OTU fanboy so I'm out of the loop on the various online feuds.
I'm guessing this new book is much more tied to the official setting?
Does it promise adapted tech assumptions or newish trends like Transhumanism?

Only Warlock17 Mar 2013 6:02 p.m. PST

As far as I understand it supports the OTU but is intended to be broadly useable.

I have bought every iteration of Traveller so far… but have always gone back to the LBBs. Based on thst track record, I have not much interest in T5. I wish it success.

billthecat18 Mar 2013 9:28 a.m. PST

I shall await reviews, esp. those on TMP, before passing judgement. But yes, in order to really market this thing, all previous Traveller products should be dropped (those that really want 'em have 'em by now, eh?).

billthecat18 Mar 2013 9:28 a.m. PST

…Of course, T6 will be better, if you can wait another 20 years…

Delta Vee18 Mar 2013 11:46 a.m. PST

ive got LBB, mega, new era, T4, and mongoose, ( i dont play gurps and d20 dont work for trav) im still not certain why id need anouther version, and after the debacle of ordering T4 from the States, if i cant get it at my LHS im very wary of ordering

While I love Traveller, is anyone really who doesn't already know the game going to put up $75 USD to try it?

I'm sure this will make money for the authors and publisher, but I can't see this as helpful to attracting new fans.
