I see a lot of "long grass" on bases. Khurasan seems to do this a lot:
I've only used sand, small rocks, and static grass. How do I do the long grass? Thanks! |

Blooddave, those look like "tufts", which are pre-made clumps of grass set in a base of glue. Take a look at this: link |

So, I see the Army Painter Tufts are pretty cheap, about $5. USD How many tufts in a package? Thanks! |

Hm, I'd guess about 30 or so, but don't have a package near to hand to count. There are a lot of different sizes in the package, so if you need to you can tear off/ cut down the larger ones. I'd definitely recommend picking some up, they're a really handy tool for spicing up bases and terrain. – James |

Blooddave – you should look out for the tufts from MiniNatur and Silfur(?) as you get more of them for the same/lower price than the Army Painter ones. |

The Dollar Store has been selling bags of green (and other colored) grass for Easter lately. You get probably a lifetime supply for $1.00 USD. This is not the usual flat grass of waster baskets, but rather a round cross section. My nearest Dollar Store is not out of them. But you may still find some. Last time I was in, all they had was the flat paper-like grass. Tom |

I goofed up the above post. Not Dollar Store, but Dollar Tree. The original post was right here on TMP recently. link Tom |

Another way would be make the tufts yourself: YouTube link The same channel also has instructions how to build the applicator.

I just put dots of white glue on wax paper and sprinkle static grass over them. After rocking the sheet back and forth to cover the glue completely, I shake off the excess grass. Finally, letting the sheet dangle between both hands, blow down across the sheet and this sticks the grass on end. Let dry and peel off as needed. Works just as well as with those fangled contraptions. |

I've always wondered, you can put a dot of glue on the base and sprinkle static grass on it . . . so what's the advantage of making the tufts ahead of time? |

If you really must have your minis advancing along paths lined with elephant grass like a miniature Japanese garden (looks really bizarre with Napoleonics!), then cheap $1 USD or less paintbrushes are the way to go – the bristles are made of the same stuff that hobby stores charge mega $$ for |
