We're pleased to preview the Columbiad heavy lift drone for our upcoming PARICOM vs. ATAL range of 20mm sci fi. The Columbiad fills many of the roles that tanks filled on 20th to early 21st century battlefields, and other new roles as well.

Although the Columbiad may be remotely operated, the constant struggle for electronic supremacy and frequent deep-penetration missile strikes against drone control centres mean the drones really need to be autonomous to be always combat-ready. Therefore, by default they are essentially thinking robots. Like all ground craft they use AML (advanced mag lev) drive.

The PARICOM equivalent, the Eight-Dragon, is under development now. The type model for the PARICOM infantry is also being sculpted. Stay tuned for developments!

Looks cool, but why 20mm?

khurasanminiatures16 Mar 2013 9:09 a.m. PST

Because I'm making a 20mm range, and this is part of it.

jack c16 Mar 2013 9:16 a.m. PST

very cool!!! how large will it be? some picture with a figure next to it?

Redroom16 Mar 2013 9:35 a.m. PST

Looks like it could easily be multiscale (perhaps multi-hatch options or options for parts that "lock in" the scale"). The turrent would make a cool drone imo too.

Cant fault the logic..Looks really good

BlackWidowPilot Fezian16 Mar 2013 10:14 a.m. PST

Very nice. Is it large enough to convert to a 15mm grave tank by adding some crew hatches as Redroom suggests?

That, good sir, is pretty damn tasty!

Only Warlock16 Mar 2013 10:47 a.m. PST

I need this in 15mm to use with my Antenociti 15mm Grav tanks! the Catamaran style hull is perfect!

John Treadaway16 Mar 2013 11:20 a.m. PST

Not my cup of tea whatsoever however it looks to be very nicely done. 20mm is a brave move I have to say -and one to be Applauded. But I agree with the idea about making it multi scale with a 15mm option via hatches and so forth.

OK you make it because you can. Damn it, we have 28, 25, 15,10, and 6mm already. Why must ranges be all over the place. That is a neat looking vehicle. If you need to make it or any other miniatures. why not 28, 25, 15, and 6mm? I really doubt that doing it in 20mm will generate more income than you would derive from the other scales.

Al (totally frustrated by multiplicity of scale)

P.S. I game SF skirmish in 28/25/6mm, Tactical in 10mm/6mm, and operational level in 2/3mm. I aint going for 20mm no matter how much I like that mini( and I really like it).

Rodrick Campbell Fezian16 Mar 2013 12:57 p.m. PST

"Looks cool, but why 20mm?"

Great looking design there. Also, it's easy enough to scale it up or down later if he decides to add it to another range of figures.

khurasanminiatures16 Mar 2013 1:20 p.m. PST

I'm making a 20mm range because there are people who game in that scale and they don't have much sci-fi to support their end of the hobby so I thought I'd pitch in and make some stuff. I'm not intending to annoy anyone by doing so, just to meet a need on the part of 20mm gamers.

Al (totally frustrated by multiplicity of scale)

First order of business when the time machine is invented… travel back to the earliest times in the miniature gaming world – and force the manufacturers and sculptors (at gunpoint if necessary) to produce wargaming figures only in O, HO, N, and Z model-train scales.

Could you imagine how many hours of debate that would have saved the wargaming community from over the decades?

@ Chris K AMen to that brother.

Samulus16 Mar 2013 3:00 p.m. PST

Love the look – fantastic. I recently started collecting 20mm moderns and decided that, despite having lots of 15mm sci fi, if I could have collected SF in 20mmI would have done so in hindsight. Much prefer the scale personally.

I will get these for 'prototype' units to use with my ultramodern US and Russian Ultranationalists. Any idea on release dates? Also could you give us an idea of the fluff for the new range, I see two factions, why are they fighting etc?

Johny Boy16 Mar 2013 3:13 p.m. PST

It's got Crusty 15mm armoured transport to me written all over it and will be adding this to the list, lovely model, again another vote for extras to enable 20/ 15mm options.

Splod8916 Mar 2013 4:59 p.m. PST

Where are the tracks? *grumble*

Love your work as always Jon.

Eli Arndt16 Mar 2013 5:30 p.m. PST

This is a cool design.

Sure it's for the much needy 20mm scifi market (trust me they are out there and can use it) but just how hard is it to throw this thing on the table with 15mm and call it good.

C'mon guys how many 15mm players are kitbashing and rescaling Bleeped text from Heavy Gear (1:144), 1:72, 28mm and even 1:48 and 1:35 scale stuff? I think it'd look awesome right alongside the Rebel Pangalactic Marines.

AAaaaaaand it's a digital design. There's nothing saying that Jon can't just retool it for 15mm if needed.

Relaaaaaaax…grin

Eli Arndt16 Mar 2013 5:30 p.m. PST

Question for you Jon,

What are the dimensions of that thing?

mmmm lets see one next to a Siler or the Advanced Superheavy Grav Tank. I am sure it will look great.

This looks really great KM!

20mm (1/72ish) is a great scale because of all the modeling resources and plastic model kits available.

I like this tank, I'd imagine it'll be a monster if I use it for 15mm!

Lion in the Stars16 Mar 2013 5:42 p.m. PST

Color me curious as to actual dimensions. I'm not above pirating models that are nominally in another scale for 15mm.

Sumatran Rat Monkey16 Mar 2013 5:43 p.m. PST

If you like it, use it, and who cares what scale it was intended for- especially for a drone, but hell, just in general.

Not using something just because the package says "20mm" is like not using a figure you like in Game X because it was designed for Game Y- it's just silly.

Great design, too- good stuff.

infojunky16 Mar 2013 7:28 p.m. PST

If any 20mm SF existed in the day I would have gone with instead of 15mm.

Lion in the Stars16 Mar 2013 11:54 p.m. PST

Khurasan, about how big is this tank of yours?

dwartist17 Mar 2013 5:35 a.m. PST

Wow – very nice, Jon!

AWuuuu17 Mar 2013 7:46 a.m. PST

Absolute killer !!
I am not very interested in tracked or even grav M1 Abrams derivatives but this is unique and sci-fi looking.

Thats the tank of the future.

I really hope it will work in 15 mm !

Eli Arndt17 Mar 2013 8:45 a.m. PST

AWuuu…I'm sure it'll work in 15mm. It's just a matter of what sort of tank you end up making it.

If it runs small, then it's a light tank. If it runs big, then it's something like the monster tanks common to scifi.

-Eli

Borscope17 Mar 2013 9:57 a.m. PST

Yep, this is getting bought for 15s. I'll make it fit.

Eli Arndt17 Mar 2013 10:04 a.m. PST

Good attitude!

If the hatches are big, I'll just say they are to facilitate alien anatomy or bulky armor and environmental suits. grin

Admiral Yi Sun Sin is my Homie17 Mar 2013 10:31 a.m. PST

I'll buy for 15mm sci-fi too. Immediately I saw that and realized despite the intended scale I'll bet I can fit it into a 15mm robotic army and it'll still look good. thumbs up

Lardie the Great17 Mar 2013 12:00 p.m. PST

But what about 28mm? these days the 15mm crowd get everything, now 20mm are gonna get cool stuff, its so unfair! I think 28mm dudes of the world should campaign for equality starting with the Khurasan back catalogue! so who's with me

Eli Arndt17 Mar 2013 12:13 p.m. PST

You guys had it good for a long haul! grin

Back in your cages!

-Eli

Lardie the Great17 Mar 2013 5:23 p.m. PST

Eli yeah but with Khurasan, Critcal Mass, Rebel …. I could go on and on, the level of design and detail has left 28mm behind with the exception of Old Crow and Antenociti even Mr Treadaway is dabbling with, what I can only call the heresy of smaller scales. it brings a tear to the eye and leaves me green with envy ;)

Bashytubits26 Mar 2013 10:13 p.m. PST

These are going to be my Garn forces armor if they are the right size.

bluebirds4027 Mar 2013 5:24 a.m. PST

cool mini, great job. as someone who plays in 20mm range, thank you.

Victor Kravenhoff01 Apr 2013 12:38 p.m. PST

Haha, hell yeah. My high tech 6mm army will now have a Bleeped texting huge tank with which to besiege entire cities.

13thMonkey04 Apr 2013 3:35 a.m. PST

I think this would go great with the 20mm Halo microops line by Macfarlane miniatures and the Earth War Force
Corsair battledress by Kursan (used as power armour as slightly too small to use as power armour for 28mm).

13thMonkey04 Apr 2013 3:36 a.m. PST

Oh and the Earth war alien intruders by Kursan are also 20mm.

13thMonkey04 Apr 2013 3:38 a.m. PST

Kursan, any idea when the 15mm Intruder "Fighting Orb" Anti-Grav Weapons Platform will be released?

alien BLOODY HELL surfer09 Apr 2013 5:56 a.m. PST

20mm sci-fi? count me in. wonder if dad will mind me using his railway layout as a battlefield? seriously though would love more 20mm options. :-)

seanswgcorner10 Apr 2013 11:57 a.m. PST

I hope I am not dreaming that Khurasan is really going to make 20mm sci fi. That would be awesome.

And I really can't understand complaining about the scale. There is so much stuff in 28mm and 15mm already. There is only on set that I can think of in 1/72 (20mm) plastic for Sci Fi and it is nowhere to be found for sale. And not many metal sci fi in 20mm.

Bring it on!

Thread Bump.

Any word on this? I'd like two to use as drones for a 28mm force, please.

Thanks

khurasanminiatures29 Aug 2013 10:12 p.m. PST

All my resin stuff got extremely backlogged -- this hasn't even been started yet.

billclo17 Nov 2021 5:47 p.m. PST

I stumbled across this while looking at Google pictures of alien looking tanks. Nice to see that Khurasan produced it; I'm very tempted… Pity there isn't something like an infantry carrier in the same range.
