I've just played my first game of Chain Reaction 3 using the free Gunfight at the OK Corrall scenario and, once I got into the reaction system, I found it very quick and entertaining. The game was no visual spectacular because it was just cardboard pieces with the character names written on, but I'm in Afghanistan and that's the best I could do. I have basically nothing more than office stationery and access to a printer for the rules etc. Fortunately there was a set of 5 die hanging around from a Christmas care package, otherwise I would have had to try to make some.

Anyway, the trial scenario worked OK with Virgil Earp going 'Out of the Fight' in the 1st round of shooting but all the Clanton Gang following him by the end of the following reaction – very deadly! I'm not convinced I did all the Reaction Tests correctly but it seemed to flow OK. I'll re-read the rules and have a search of the 2HW Yahoo Group when I've time and then re-run the same scenario. Once I get these basic game systems mastered, I'm thinking of moving on to a mini-campaign, just not sure of the setting yet. Since my 'models' are all going to be pieces of cardboard, I'm not limited by my figure collection but I am limited by the size of table in my room, which is a little over 2'x2'. (That's the table size – the room is a LITTLE bigger!)

Any suggestions to get me going would be much appreciated!

Cover is good. Lots of cover means your guys can try to outflank if they are outgunned and forced to duck back.

Visit the Yahoo! Group, there's a bunch of free files and lots of people are active, they can answer any question you may have:

And Six Gun Sound has a great set of campaigns, from Cowboys to Outlaws:

Cambria,
Since you have access to a computer, you could supplement your dice by using one of the online random number generators.

Thx Grelber – I've just discovered the following:
roll-dice-online.com

It seems quite a reasonable alternative to rolling real dice, since it lets you 'roll' multiple dice at once, but I must admit to preferring physically rolling the little numbered cubes!

All,

For your information, and to let you know what a top guy Ed (the Two Hours Wargames guy) is, he is sending me a paper copy of his & Bob Minadeo's rules, 'Six Gun Sound'. This is clearly a pure and generous gift from Ed, but I suspect it will also get me hooked on his game systems and make me a loyal customer ;-)

Cheers Ed & Bob!

Ed is one of those guys that you can count on to do cool stuff like that.

And thanks to Bob for pointing the thread out to me and making the suggestion!

Sounds like you have less room than I did when in Iraq but but I did find a easy solution to terrain. You should have access to piles of water bottles

This was my necromunda terrain in Iraq. The boxes were a trio of stack able cardboard holiday boxes that someone send in a care-package that nestled inside of each other and some huts made out of waterbottles.

Stolen office paper/folders and printouts gave texture.

Great improvisation DZT! Due to time constraints (& lack of models & modelling skills!), I'll probably stick with my 2D cardboard chits & cut-outs, but I loved seeing what you did.

Cambria,

Good for you. I switch to computer games when I deploy.

Ed,
That was grand.
