I'm afraid that I haven't got very much time so I'm going to have to just upload the pics and show what's been happening as I haven't made a post of any substance for quite some time. The first set of pics is a basic plan of what I'm hoping to use in terms of the models of the models I intend to use for Francesco Gonzaga command base leading his men at arms accross the river Taro for theFornovo demo game that I've been working on.
The second bunch are some conversion models of the French Mounted Crossbowmen that were present at the battle and have largely been inspired by our very own Captain Bloods superb work on his WoR collection:
There is still the small matter of adding some grey putty to the models as well as a bit of cleaning up of the metal mini's but they should soon be ready for a lick of paint. I've got a few more pics lined up of some of the other stuff for Fornovo that I've been working opon but I'll wait intil these fellows have had a lick of paint before adding anything else. Darrell. |

One of my "Must" battles from this period. Can I ask who makes those mounted crossbowmen, or are they converts? PS. Not sure if this thread was posted in the "Moderns" section or by mistake. ;-) |

Nice work! There is an excellent model of Francesco Gonzaga emerging from the Taro River at Fornovo here--scroll down to image no. 8: link Also, Mirliton has a 28mm Gonzaga-esque figure called "Commander in complete armour and Venetian style sallet" found at the bottom of this page: link John |

Can I ask who makes those mounted crossbowmen, or are they converts? The crossbowmen, both metal and plastic are conversions. I'm going to do all the French Mounted Crossbowmen as conversions. The Perry's already do some lovely Italian Mounted Crossbowmen, I'll probably do some headswaps to add to the French chaps. PS. Not sure if this thread was posted in the "Moderns" section or by mistake. ;-) Almost certainly
. [shudder] :O) |

Nice work! There is an excellent model of Francesco Gonzaga emerging from the Taro River at Fornovo here--scroll down to image no. 8: link Wow! an amazing piece of brushwork! Perhaps I'm working in the wrong scale!?!? If you tell me it's 28mm I'll be hanging up my boots so's to speak :-) A great depiction of Frederico Gonzaga, Duke of Mantua's heradic banner too. Thanks very much John. Also, Mirliton has a 28mm Gonzaga-esque figure called "Commander in complete armour and Venetian style sallet" found at the bottom of this page: link I hadn't really considered Mirliton as most of the army is Perry stuff with a few Venexia miniatures thrown in. How do you think the Mirliton stuff is size wise (bulk and height) when compared with the Perry's offerings? Also, will their 'cavalry' figures sit well on Perry or Venexia horse flesh? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers, Darrell. darrellhindley.co.uk link gewalthaufen.blogspot.co.uk link |

If you tell me it's 28mm I'll be hanging up my boots so's to speak :-) Your boots are safe! It's 54mm (I believe). Just wish that I ws capable of such brush work regardless as to the scale. I have found that the Mirliton figures match up quite well with Perrys and Venexia 28's. The Mirliton horses are not interchangeable with the other lines, as the underside of the rider has a piece that fits into the notch in the horse's saddle. Otherwise, a very good match up. John |

I really shouldn't be looking at all these beautiful miniatures, I need to finish my own lead piles first. Wow their is alot of nice Renaissance and Italian Wars figures on the market! Darrell; please more pictures when you finish the mounted crossbowmen. |

I may just order one or two and give them a try. I really shouldn't be looking at all these beautiful miniatures, I need to finish my own lead piles first. Wow their is alot of nice Renaissance and Italian Wars figures on the market! The new TAG Kickstarter Henry VIII English don't help matters IMHO! Really lovely miniatures. I have to keep pegging myself back :O) Darrell; please more pictures when you finish the mounted crossbowmen. Ah, there will be. Small matter of finding the time to paint the vignette and the crossbowmen first :O) darrellhindley.co.uk link gewalthaufen.blogspot.co.uk link |
