hard edge is achieved with a brush or template, soft edge is achieved with a spray gun and has a "feathered" edge. |

There is a beautiful picture of an M3 Grant in one of the Flames of War books. The dark camo was obviously applied in the field with a paintbrush. It's streaky, and has many drips. Ah, here it is! link |
