I'm looking for a good old-school looking giant to match my 1980's/1990's Warhammer figures. Ideally it would look something like those old Ral Partha giants back in the day. Here's my wish list: 1) Not too big. Something around 50-60mm (about twice the size of a normal infantry figure). Citadel and Marauder giants are too big. 2) Not too detailed, it can't clash with my old minis! Rough around the edges is perfect, but tons of spikes and super-detailing might look out of place. 3) Average pose, not too dynamic and not too static. The giant shouldn't look like he couldn't hold his pose for more than a minute without losing his balance, but at the same time he shouldn't look so stiff like he's waiting for one of those old Daguerreotype photos. This is a good candidate, but I'm having a hard time ID'ing it:
Any other ideas? |

My favourite old school giants are those from Minifigs SS (Sword & Sorcery) range. They stood an impressive 25mm high – the same as the non-giants! Garrison have some Old School giants in their (his) fantasy ranges – I've always liked the 4-armed troll with club. |

I recommend checking Reaper. Their miniatures always struck me as being close in style to the old Ral Partha ones. |

I love the old Metal Magic giants. Splintered Light sells them now: link link link

Does anybody make a suitable 40mm or 54mm "human" figure that might serve as a "giant" for you? Doug |

Well, there's nothing old-schoolely pretty as Otherworld. Their giants are beautiful: link |

Otherworld miniatures are suitably old school. Not sure about the level of detail though. link |

I agree with Chuck05, check out the Splintered Light ones. They are probably just what you are looking for. |

How about Grenadier? These are now sold by Mirliton. link |

How about Iron Wind Metals, they have lots of the old Ral Partha stuff: link |

The Giant in that pic is Reaper's Fomorian Giant. Great model. |

Depending on what type of Giant you are looking for, there are several sources to check into. MegaMiniatures is selling on e-Bay, and he had many that I really liked -- don't know if they are still produced, though, so you will need to check yourself, what he has available: auction. Another source for Frost Giants (aka, Vikings of large size), would be Cherilea 54mm/60mm Vikings figures: very affordable, very paintable, not overly detailed, but enough to make them worthwhile. They sell on e-Bay: auction. Buckets of plastic dinosaurs, with Cave Men figures (54-60mm tall) make great (AD&D Hill) Giants, but these seem to be out of production. If you can find them, they paint decent, and they have just enough detail, to match up with 1980's vintage Grenadier Hill Giant figures -- I've got both, and they work well, side-by-side on the gaming table. Cheers! |

I just went on a buying spree for Giants (was looking through my WH3rd book and saw all the giants on a large battle field) and this is what I found: You can find them here: link
Blorg, Hill Giant – This one is about 3 inches tall
The one in the picture above you asked about is this one: The Formorian Giant and is about 3" tall
Frorigh, Frost Giant – this one is about 4" tall
Gunther, Fire Giant – about 4" tall – I put a club in has hand :)
Krug, Hill Giant Chieftain – about 3" tall
Lunkh, Hill Giant – about 3" to top of head
Jack and the Beanstalk GIANT! – about 3" tall with 3 head choices. Good luck! |

Thanks for all the suggestions! I think I am settling for Chuck's nomination—Splintered Light. It seems the right blend of old-style that is big enough to be noticed on the battlefield but not too big to be a distraction, and the right level of goofy to it too. This thread reminded me why TMP is a great community though, thanks again! |

Yes, this turned into a fantastic thread. Makes me wish I was on the hunt for a giant! |

Happy to help. If you like I can take a comaparison pic of the Splitered Light giants I have next to some fantasy figures so you can see how they match up. I wont be able to post them until tommorrow though. Chuck |

Certainly if you'd like, I am definitely going for the hunched over fellow (Mountain Giant 2 on the Splintered Light website), but the others look pretty interesting too. |

Here you go:
The giant is shown next to a GW orc and Gw Skeleton. If I remember correctly the mountain giant is even bigger than the one in my picture. Chuck |
