Hi, just ran three LOTR games at the Southern Front convention. Here is the first AAR on the Fell Winter game: link

Awesome AAR! I clicked through the other battles as well, looks like a great weekend! Love your winter terrain.

Great report. And great terrain.

All three games had outstanding terrain. Nice AAR. You truly are a Dark Lord.

I love the fact that you use stand ins for figs. I am glad that I'm not the only one who doesn't use all GW figs!

Thanks all.

That is Lemax Christmas Decor from my living room. I try to run a winter game at each Spring Fever to encourage the thaw!

I am not a GW acolyte and use any mini that I think stylistically fits the imagery (with the caveat that my imagery is heavily influenced by Weta).

I mixed in BTD Dark Age Saxon archers with the Rangers. The same lads did double duty in the Scouring of the Shire game that I will post next.

My wargs are a mix of Reaper Goblin Wolves, Reaper Dire Wolves, and Ral Partha Wolves. I noticed that the Blue Moon Wolves look a lot like the new Fell Wargs from GW and will get some of those soon. You can never have too many wolves.

The troll is a nice one from Reaper. He came to the battle instead of a GW troll because he has only seen limited action.

The civilans were a mix of Mega Minis townsfolk and hobbits, some BTD Saxons/Viking Civilians, and some more Mithril hobbits.

Lost, how do the Mega Mini's work with GW's LOTR figs, size wise?

Xin,

It all depends. The Mega-minis are mostly from older somewhat defunct 25mm lines. That minis there is some variation in scale to the low side of 25mm. Likewise, GW LOTR has a lot of variation in scale on the high side of 25mm. (OBTW, the original GW contract required LOTR to be 25mm, not 28mm to prevent Warhammer dilution of the LOTR IP).

I think it all works within the normal distribution of human and hobbit height, girth, and body types with the occassional very large mega-mini hobbit set to the side for being just too big.

The BTD stuff is spot on and so are the MM townsfolk in my book.

I will take a few comparison shots for the next blog entry.
