…dropping a nicely detailed figure face down into a batch of freshly mixed 6 minute epoxy?

Luckily for me, I base my figures before I prime and paint them.

He is now soaking in a vat of Simple Green.

I can think f something ALMOST as annoying, and that's messing up the typing on your thread title! grin

Cardinal Ximenez11 Mar 2013 8:52 p.m. PST

Opening a stuck lid on a foundry paint bottle and having it spill on the table, pants, almost completed figures etc.

None of that sounds good.
How about my T35s keep getting KOed early in games. Or soon after their entrance. I like the big lumbering hulks, but they are just too thin skinned.

Mako1111 Mar 2013 9:14 p.m. PST

That is bad.

Still, I find having to deflash, and remove mold lines far more tedious and bothersome, since it's needed for pretty much every miniature out there.

Moree? a sleepy town in the north of NSW, what did they do wrong?

Dropping a pike with superglue on it onto the wood floor, and by the time I find it, it's stuck.

SECURITY MINISTER CRITTER11 Mar 2013 9:52 p.m. PST

I'm constrained by the Official Secrets Act from divulging it though.

Putting out a whole new freshly painted Byzantine army, picking up the varnish spray can and zzzzssssssssssh ! …..it's not varnish but metallic silver.

To be crushed by your enemies, to be driven before them and hear the lamentations of your women.

THAT is bad.

Gluing an expensive flag upside down with super glue.

Finding mould lines on a model you just finished painting and then feeling like no matter how small, it's glaring, detracting from the model no matter what angle….then having to remove it perfectly match the paint over it to the surrounding area…..

Completely finish basing 7 regiments of cavalry, with paint, flock etc. Then finding out the bases are the incorrect ones.

Opening a stuck lid on a foundry paint bottle and having it spill on the table, pants, almost completed figures etc.

I hear your pain! Though, in my case, it was a GW paint bottle…

Trying to put landing gear and rotors on Flashpoint Blackhawks comes to mind.

I love that on the front page this reads as :

Is there anything moree annoying than…John the OFM on Pre-Paint Preparation

I'm too polite to answer that question though grin

Accidently grabbing the can of black primer when you're ready to dullcoat your figures and not realizing it until they all have a good swatch of black on them.

Ouch !

Martin Rapier12 Mar 2013 4:07 a.m. PST

Dropping a tiny part on the floor then spending ten minutes grubbing around with a powerful light trying to find it.

Doing exactly the same thing ten minutes later.

Finding the two part epoxy has set before you've finished sticking stuff together.

Spray varnish which dries white.

Seperate shields and spears with an over the shoulder spear stance. I love Crusader Scots but they are a nightmare to put together…

I can't believe there is a board for "pre-paint preparation!"

I suppose there a "Display/Storage techiques board" as well?

What about that screeching sound from Dumb and Dumber?

Dropping an almost finished figure into your paint pallete and having to start over again.

Did the same thing with what I thought was Matt varnish but turned out to be white paint – my newly painted Confederates changed from greybacks to white coats!

…dropping a nicely detailed figure face down into a batch of freshly mixed 6 minute epoxy?

If you're fast enough, I found many epoxies are soluble in rubbing alcohol. I did this once, and while flailing about, set on a bottle of the stuff I use for thinning paints for airbrushing. Surprise, it worked!

Also one time was doing some household repairs using epoxy, and accidentally brushed the piece of paper I was mixing on, onto the floor. Of course it landed face-down (like buttered toast, I suppose), right on the brand-new hardwood floors! Again, rubbing alcohol came to the rescue…

Damon.

Ruined the wife's table after spilling plastic glue all over it :-(

Meiczyslaw12 Mar 2013 6:48 a.m. PST

The wife's done that one twice. Once with safety orange, and the second time with a hot pink.

Quote, as she's looking over my shoulder: "I wouldn't have minded if it hadn't gotten my clothes both times."

The Beast Rampant12 Mar 2013 11:27 a.m. PST

The old "mistaking the spray primer for spray sealer" routine.

I have averaged that one about once every ten years, because it takes ten years for me to quit being paranoid about it and get sloppy again.

Of course now, they are not the same brand, or look much alike, so maybe I'll keep my streak.

Nothing is as painful as having an X-Acto knife with a no.11 blade roll off your work table and land on your bare foot. They always land point down, so first aid is usually required.

Personal logo John the OFM Supporting Member of TMP12 Mar 2013 6:20 p.m. PST

I put an X-Acto knife clean through my ring finger on my left hand, trying to grab it before it hit the floor.

COL Scott0again14 Mar 2013 6:03 a.m. PST

With X-Actos I let them fall and move my feet fast. They are too sharp to play with.

It did take one lesson for me to learn that though. yikes

Personal logo John the OFM Supporting Member of TMP22 Mar 2013 8:30 a.m. PST

The instinct is to grab falling things.
To let it drop requires forethought. grin Like you were planning to drop it anyway, and had a plan.
