Devotees of serious speculative fiction will probably have Roy Kinnards book "Science Fiction Serials A Critical Filmography of the 31 Hard SF Cliffhangers. The book states that the Vanishing Shadow is unavailable. However Bigger Buford on evilBay has the Vanishing Shadow in his catalog here. auction My copy has not arrived yet, so I can not review it at this time.

Interesting. Let us know how it looks when you do get it, I'd certainly like to know.

My copy of the Vanishing Shadow arrived today. I saw the first chapter and it is good quality for an early '30s serial. I only watch one chapter a day, especially with "new" serials, so I will let you know about the quality of the rest of the serial in 12 days. It has a pretty good looking robot for it's time.

The print is good quality with very few glitches. Better then some slightly newer prints I've seen. The serial itself is a product of it's time with a naive script, even compared to other serials. The written introductions to each chapter are remarkably long. It is a fun serial, but I wish I sold them the rope for the film. Whoever did made a killing.

I find many of the early serials hard to watch. IMHO, the best were produced by Republic and Universal starting with "Flash Gordon" in 1936 and ending with "Jesse James Rides Again" in 1947.

Hot Diggety Billthecat! That means we can send away for our very own Cosmic Smoke Gun, just like Commander Cory uses on "Space Patrol"!!!
