Yes, the website FAQ does claim that if you Stifle me, your account is automatically Locked. Well, the server actually does that now. I suppose that the basic principle is that you have to see what I'm posting, as it might be something important to the operation of the website. And if you really dislike me enough to Stifle me, why are you on TMP anyway? If your account is auto-Locked for Stifling me, simply: 1. unStifle me 2. PM me to explain why I should Unlock your account |

I'm not sure why anyone would stifle you. If they don't like it here they're free to go elsewhere. It's not like you're terribly offensive. The worst thing you've ever said to me is no. |

I'm not sure why anyone would stifle you. If they don't like it here they're free to go elsewhere. Bill may run TMP, but visiting and participating on TMP is not all about him, and his unofficial (i.e. hobby-related) messages may not always be to everybody's taste. When asked why he wouldn't simply disable the stifling of his account, his reply was: This way [meaning locking accounts that stifle his account] is more fun. :-) |

1. unStifle me 2. PM me to explain why I should Unlock your account Can I ask a stupid question? If one's account is locked how does one sign on to unstifle? Or does a locked account still have access to basic account functions but just can't post messages? |
Editor in Chief Bill | 11 Mar 2013 7:36 a.m. PST |
When asked why he wouldn't simply disable the stifling of his account, his reply was: This way [meaning locking accounts that stifle his account] is more fun. :-) Publishing my personal emails, now? But yes, it is more fun, because then they have to contact me, and I can ask them why they Stifled me, and see what their reaction is. (So far, they dodge the question!) |
Tango01 | 11 Mar 2013 11:19 a.m. PST |
Please, forget my stupid question, but this means that the 60 more or less persons which stifle you Bill had now authomatically their accounts locked? Or this is only for the new ones? Amicalement Armand |

Er.. .why not simply write some code so people can't stifle you – if that treatment upsets you so much? |
Col Durnford | 11 Mar 2013 12:40 p.m. PST |
Can I do it too? The whole stifle thing is silly and childish. I used it once for a fast count of 5 and then hit the un-stifle button. |

Something the Editor can obviously do that members cannot. |
John the OFM | 11 Mar 2013 8:39 p.m. PST |
Why do you care who stifled you? It's harmless. If it bugs you to be stifled, then grow thicker skin. I find it useful. |
| Bandolier | 11 Mar 2013 9:19 p.m. PST |
I don't care who stifles me as I have no idea who they are or what the reason might be. But it does make me curious when I see members carrying large numbers of anonymously gifted stifles. I just don't like the function and I never use it. It seems there is a majority that disagree with me so that's just the way it is. |

I stifled a person long ago over a thread about figure Piracy. His account was locked before I unstifled him, and I've just left it in place. I'm just that lazy

Something the Editor can obviously do that members cannot. Actually, I can't, either (well, not unless I write up some code for exploring the database
) |
Editor in Chief Bill | 12 Mar 2013 6:23 p.m. PST |
but this means that the 60 more or less persons which stifle you Bill had now authomatically their accounts locked? Yes, the server did it automatically. Although many of those 60 were already Locked accounts
Er.. .why not simply write some code so people can't stifle you – if that treatment upsets you so much? As I've said, this way is more fun. I've been toying with the idea of coding this up for some time, but it was one of the members who persuaded me it was time to do it. Can't say I get "upset" about Stifles, it just seems logical that someone who doesn't want to hear what I say shouldn't be part of this community. |
| Skeptic | 12 Mar 2013 7:09 p.m. PST |
[I]t just seems logical that someone who doesn't want to hear what I say shouldn't be part of this community. Not really – I would expect that many of us are simply here for discussions about wargaming/miniatures, rather than TMP navel-gazing and inside jokes. So, it would really depend on what you have to say. If you contribute to discussions about wargaming / miniatures, and other interesting topics, or make important announcements about TMP, that is one thing. However, I think that the TMP community has grown to the point where it has acquired a life of its own, and what you say is not necessarily going to interest all members, no matter what title you give yourself, and despite your essential role in keeping TMP going. |
