Same new players as:
TMP link

I made them switch up alliances and armies, and made lists of 1,000pts for each faction (2,000pts per side total.)

Changed the goals of the game, instead of annihilation – they had 7 turns to achieve Victory Points (VP):

Table Qtr uncontested: 3 VP.
Table Qtr contested (1 model or more of enemy in quarter): 1 VP.
Kill enemy general: 3 VP.

VASA & Syntha vs. Viridians & Junkers

VASA:
Commander X & 4x Black Legion bodyguard
1x Crucifier Bird of Prey
2x Typhoon BoP
1x Ronin APC w/Mounted GL & Bull Plates
8x Suppressors
1x sqd of 9 Marines w/GL

Syntha:
Dr. Omega & 4x Assault Andro Bodyguard
1x Cyclops Nemesis Grav Tank
1x sqd of 5x Tact Terato, 1x MLRS
1x sqd of 5x Assault Terato, 1x Plasma Proj.
1x sqd of 8x Marines, 1x GL
1x sqd of 7x Tact Andro, 1x Plasma Cannon

Viridians:
Maj Icarus Trask & 5x Shock Marine Bodyguard
1x Behemoth (Howitzer)
4x Terrasaurs, 1x Sgt
8x Scout Commandos
2x sqd of 8x Marines (1 has a Rocket Launcher)

Junkers:
Praetor Maximus & 6x Praetorian Guard Bodyguard
Salamander Cannon
4x Desert Marauders (1x Heatwave)
1x Enforcer (Lictor)
1x sqd 7x Grenadiers
1x sqd 8x Grenadiers
1x sqd of 13x Convict Legion (1x Flamer)

It was a great game, lots of learning and allies going into the other room for discussing tactic changes.

The Junks and Viridians succeeded in killing the two enemy "generals" (6pts) and having one quarter uncontested (3VP), two contested (2VP) for a total of 11 VP to the VASA & Syntha one uncontested quarter (3 VP) and two contested (2 VP.)

Even though their side lost, Man of the Match was the Ronin APC. Into the third turn, it progressed into the Junker deployment zone quarter and for the next four turns absorbed everything the Viridians and Junks threw at it without succumbing. 15 grenades over three turns, five shotguns, the Behemoth, and two rounds of CC with five Grenadiers… It just made every single Hvy Armor Save, sticking around until the end.

Shifting away from straight up just kill, kill, kill to goals was difficult with some players as they hunkered down some units instead of taking more risks in goal achievement.

Each of the players gained respect for the effectiveness of some of the most basic troops, (which made both the key "enemy general" kills) and for the resiliency of some of the larger models. While all the Birds of Prey fell victim to the Salamander Cannon turn after turn, the Ronin and Cyclops tanks weathered everything thrown at them and lasted the whole game.

See, and you had me thinking somebody was bringing out VOID rules/models again for commercial sale.

Really cool that you're getting in some games with a cool system and minis.

Scotia Grendel does have the rules and models for sale.

Privateer4hire09 Mar 2013 8:26 p.m. PST

Thank you, Caesar.

Unfortunately, looks like the shipping from Scotia is too rich for my blood. Getting more than a few blisters (the prices per model are certainly reaonsable) looks like the weight would jack up the postage too much.

No problem.
It's a good line and it seems like not too many know that it is still available.

They are or were a special order item from FRPGames. They might still carry them in the USA.

brookhursthobbies.com

Brookhurst Hobbies in Garden Grove, CA has quite an extensive inventory considering that it is as old as when i-Kore folded.

It is not listed on their online presence, but they DO have many figures & boxed sets, seen many on the shelf myself just a year ago.

Call ahead to verify if they have what you are looking for – they have a storefront and a separate warehouse bldg, and last time I was there (2012) they STILL do manual receipts at the register, so they probably do not have a computerized combined inventory.

Some figures and boxed sets may be in either/or warehouse/storefront, so it may take a couple calls or emails to get a confirm in stock or not at both places.

Also – the rules and all the faction books are free .pdf downloads off the net (even right there at Scotia Grendel), you do not HAVE to shell out for a book if you do not want. get the downloads, and proxy what you DO have if you cannot afford to buy and have shipped out to you.

It is actually a brilliantly simple d10 system to learn, but (my opinion) varied enough in execution to keep veteran game players challenged.

Choir preaching from all of you :)
Thanks for extra info.

On the whole, eBay sux for VOID now.

Used to be you could find individula and "lot" batches of figures really cheap, but now all that's left are the eBay "storefront" type of sellers that charge just about GW prices for the blisters (when you include shipping.)

A rogue seller does occasionally pop up once in a great while with a decent deal, but you have to regularly be searching for VOID figures to luck out.

Here and Bartertown are the best places I've found for deals.
