What is your favorite thing about game conventions? a) Seeing your friends. b) Buying games, minis, and scenery. c) Going to the flea market. d) Playing new games. e) Playing familiar games. f) Drinking a beer while playing a game with my friends. g) Other things. h) All of the above. i) None of the above. |
79thPA | 08 Mar 2013 7:52 a.m. PST |
Probably a mixed bag of all of the above. Conventions are a good opportunity (if you can get into the game) to try out new rules or time periods. You also get to see folks you may only see a weekend or two a year. And who doesn't like a flea market bargain? |

H. I love it all! While Conquest Sac is fun, Kubla Con in SF is what I look forward to every year for the last 10 years! And I always at least two games when I am there. Getting amped up for Kubla already.

well, it fires me up
go home and paint like a crazy man for weeks. Many times a hot looking game forces me to drop big bucks buying goodies for that game. |

A: Friends & B: flea market Many of my gaming friends live 2-3 hours away, so we don't see each other regularly. We use conventions as way to gather & have a game day amongst ourselves. We rarely play in convention games that other people run, & usually try to take up all the spots in the games our group runs so people named Barrie aren't able to play. |

The fact that I suffer from anosmia (but have probably spelled it wrong or it be autocorrected to androids) is one of the few times that it is a benefit, is when the press of the vast unwashed is attending conventions and shows. When I used to play multi day events of (magic the gathering) it was surprising that many gamers used to shower at all, especially as my gen con armband nearly disintegrated in the shower, but theirs were still legible. |

My comrades. Being able to game if I want too. Buying stuff I won't see elsewhere. Hoping to find the magic (period fill in) ruleset. Selling my stuff to grateful gamers to promote the hobby and my own collection. I used to like meeting the leading personalities with the coolest products. Not so much anymore unless it's that magic (period fill in) wargame book or ruleset. |
OSchmidt | 11 Mar 2013 9:29 a.m. PST |
For me it's seeing friends and going out to dinner and lunch with them, catching up on old times and enjoying their company. Gaming is Ok, the buying and selling is OK, but that's a very short term reward. But talking with people who you enjoy talking to, being with them and relaxing with them, that's the reapl intrest. |
