Thought I would pop in and let you know how things are progressing.
First off, I am well into the narrative of the 2nd Sikh War Chapter, which is shaping out as follows:
Crisis and Confusion
1st Draft completed
The Chenab River Campaign:
Ramnuggar
as above
Fort Jubbur
as above
Combat of Suddulapore
to be at least started this weekend.
Commentary
The Chillianwalla Campaign (w/Extensive commentary)
Gujerat, the March to the Khyber and end of the War.
As you can see, I going to be one of the first authors to really present the, seemingly, disjointed combats of Ramnuggar and Suddulapore into what they really were
a campaign and Fort Jubbur is a vital link in this discussion.
Never 'eard of Fort Jubbur before
?
Very few people have, but imagine yourself as Gough, Cureton or Campbell and having one of your brigadier's send in a brief message, saying:
"By the by, did you know that there's a rather substantial fort, almost fortress, about ten miles off your flank from which 2,000 trained Jagirdiri troops have been riding out daily to raid grazing livestock and beasts of burdens from us, plundering sutlers attempting to join the tail, well supported by the local population of young men and Utes, and
Oh, yes
fully aware that I'm escorting the armys' entire Artillery Train and Engineer Park"?
Well, this campaign in miniature finally gets good solid coverage in the narrative and, as most of you know, while my book is geared more along scholarly lines, I have tried to make it "Wargamer/wargaming" friendly and this sub-section fits that bill to a T, since there are so many what if's involved with it.
Writing has been progressing smoothly and steadily and I fully intend on having, at the very least, the 1st draft of this final chapter of the book, done by late March.
Stay tuned
