Just curious…Can anyone tell me if there is any wargaming going on in the Springfield/Chicopee area?

Thanks,

Chris

Does it have to be Springfield?

As far as I know, most of the gamestores in Springfield are dead and gone. Their are gamestores nearby along Rt2, but I do not know what your range is.

Greenfield Games comes to mind. There are also a couple in Amherst/Hadley area.

Mainly interested in historical gaming. Ancients, 19th cenrury and some moderns, as well as a little sci-fi. It doesn't have to be exactly in Springfield, but within an hour's drive, more or less. Mostly, I'm wondering how difficult it would be to find other players.

It's nothing definite at this point. Just trying to see what's out there.

Yelp seems to think that the two good game stores nearby are in Manchester and Amhearst.

I think there is still an active games club within UMass, and some of the old non-student grognards attend as well. UMass is in Amherst.

Many years ago when I attended UMass we would meet up with an active group from Springfield on occasion. Some of them may still be around, and hopefully new recruits as well.

Altius,

To answer your original question, yes, there is an active club called The BoG (Bunch of Guys) in Springfield. We usually meet once a week on Sunday nights. Depending on who is hosting the game on any particular week, we may meet in Springfield or East Longmeadow. The menu is usually Napoleonic, ACW, or WWII miniatures, but we have been know to play historical board games.

If you would like to join, send me an e-mail (tomruta@juno.com) and I'll send you contact information.

Regards,

Tom.

P.S. Mike, Ouch! "old non-student grognards" is probably a very accurate description. But if I had my choice I would probably call us "alumni advisers". We are still around, and the club (Game Hobbyist League) is very active this year. Drop in for a game sometime.

Good to see you're still in action, Tom. Say hello to the guys for me. Theo & I have bantered around the possibility of doing another reunion game.

Altius, these Springfield guys (and the UMass Grognards)are top notch, and play lots of great games.

Also, Altius and/or Tom, have you considered coming up to Maine for Huzzah! We're in a newer and larger venue this year as we have outgrown our old space. We draw from all over New England and even guys from beyond come up too. Check out huzzahcon.com

Chris you moving?

Thanks for the responses, guys. If I end up in town, now I'll know where to look for a game.

Also, Altius and/or Tom, have you considered coming up to Maine for Huzzah!

Why, yes I have! Portland wouldn't be too far to drive. Besides, I'm originally from Bath, and that might give me a chance to run into some of the old-timers who taught me to play way back when I was a kid.

Chris you moving?

Too early to say, and it may not even come about. Basically, there is a company up there which is putting a lot of pressure on me to consider joining them, but there are a lot of variables to consider first.

There's supposed to be a really active historical gaming group in Deerfield… but, to date, I've never been able to nail down the particulars of that group.

As for my store(s), we don't really do historical gaming – though there are a handful of interested folks in the area. Sadly, never enough to support having anything deeper than C&CA in the stores.

Having said that, if you ever found yourself in Greenfield with a group of like-minded gamer you would be welcome to set up a game in our gaming space.
