For those who are interested, here is a list of the FIW and AWI games (and their rules) scheduled for Cold Wars this weekend:

F-381 Bushy Run 1763
9am This Very Ground

F-328 Cowpens
10am Carnage & Glory II

F-327 Waxhaws
2pm Carnage & Glory II

F-405 Sideling Hill 1756
6pm 50 Paces

S-332 Dahlke Homestead 1779
10am Carnage & Glory II

S-131 Freeman's Farm 1777
10am Sons Of Liberty

S-188 Brandywine 1777
1pm All The Kings Men

S-382 Bushy Run 1763
2pm This Very Ground

S-136 Campbell's Woods
6pm Home Rules

S-337 Rear Guard At New Brunswick

F-433 German Flatts 1757
6pm Turnbacks & Tommyhawks

S-432 Germantown 1777
7pm Battle Cry (modified)

The list is taken from the Cold Wars Preliminary and Additional Events Lists. Although the Bushy Run games are full and many of the Carnage & Glory games are close to full, there still should be space available in the other events.

Enjoy the games.

I am mildly surprised that Muskets and Tomahawks has only one event. Tommyhawks? Good to see that This Very Ground is still at bat. Too bad I am going to miss the Battle Cry event.

We ran two impromptu games of British Grenadier over in the flea market area on Friday and Saturday evening.

Friday was the morning action at Monmouth and the Saturday one was the Chatterton's Hill (White Plains) scenario.

Great fun had by all.

Well i'd like to thank all six of the people that took tickets for my Battle Cry game and then decided not to show.

This will probably sour me from running games again!

I got the impression there was a lot of that going on this past weekend. Also a lot fewer people than usual.

How were the Bushy Run games using TVG rules? Did they come
off ok? Pics or AAR?

historygamer11 Mar 2013 12:54 p.m. PST

I think a lot of people got caught by the snow and didn't attend. That said, I have been complaining about the ticket system for years. It requires a lot of money to support and staff hours to run, and IMHO, it isn't worth the time or effort due to the number of no-shows (for whatever reasons). No doubt some will jump in and tell how all their ticket holders showed up, but this is a system HMGS has no visibility over but costs a lot to maintain.

I saw the Bushy Run game. It looked okay, nothing earth shattering. That said, I honestly didn't see a lot of impressive looking games (though they should just hand David Bonk and award as he walks in). :-)

The one game next to David's was very good too. I did not judge this con as I was busy running two pick up games, shopping, and selling in the flea market area.

@greenknight2 That is a bummer, as I was looking forward to the pictures. You had a great looking game there (looking at the video). Their loss. (Well, and mine too, as I do not get any picture…)

Actually, the Bushy Run game was quite nice, in my opinion.

Cliff did a fine job with a rather complex scenario for a wargame. The figures were well painted and the terrain was good.

Unfortnately, I was not able to play, as I didn't make it in to the Con until about the time it started.

Eric,
I'm planning on running the scenario for our local gaming group in April. I'm interested in the particulars of how
the game was set up-victory conditions, troop deployment,
etc. Any changes made from the original scenario Greg posted in the Ironivan files. Any assistance would be very
appreciated.

Eric:

As an often judge at the cons, my standards are rather high. I ran two games and wouldn't have said my game was anything special either. :-) There are some games that pop out at you, and that is what I look for. I will say I don't think the placement of the Bushy Run game did it any favors – beside the front desk and stairs. The lighting is not the best there either. And I'll admit, having such a long association with the site, my expectations were… hopeful. :-)

epturner12 Mar 2013 1:01 p.m. PST

Historygamer;
Oh, you are quite right in that respect. It's location was rubbish.

The figures are well painted, Cliff has used them before.

I think the pick up games you do are quite nice. Unfortunately, being, by their very nature pick up games, I never know you are going to run them…

Flash mob wargaming. :-)

Virginia Tory … I saw a little bit of one of your dealer-area games … very nice. Looked like fun. I love the BG! rules.

We like them too. We were both running those games. :-)

>Virginia Tory … I saw a little bit of one of your dealer->area games … very nice. Looked like fun. I love the BG! >rules.

Which one? We did Monmouth on Friday night and White Plains on Saturday. As Historygamer said, we both really like the rules--they capture the period quite well, including the use of disruption to keep the body count more within AWI parameters (which is not to say you can't get your regiments mauled quite handily, as happened to the Maryland battalion on Saturday).

Phil Fry14 Mar 2013 10:59 a.m. PST

Big thumbs up for Cliff's Bushy Run. A lot of fun. Sadly I had to leave a turn or two early due to a time conflict with another game. Cliff did a great job running the game.

historygamer15 Mar 2013 9:35 a.m. PST

What rules did they use? Was it a skirmish game or other?

mbsparta15 Mar 2013 11:15 a.m. PST

Virginia Tory … I think it was Friday night's game … We play BG! in 28mm … It's a great game. Looked like you guys were having fun with it.

FYI, the Bushy Run game was awarded a Legion of Honor Battle Star. The rules used in the game were This Very Ground. I saw the game and also liked it.

Historygamer, I agree with you that HMGS could easily hand David Bonk an award every time he walks in the building. All his games looked outstanding, with the AWI game (Rear Guard at New Brunswick) the best one of the lot in my opinion.

historygamer15 Mar 2013 2:51 p.m. PST

If I'm not judging games, it always seems I run across David's game as he is cleaning up. I think I have awarded him at least one or two PELA's when I have been judging. Perhaps it is time to create a Master GM class. :-)

Good to hear a LOH award was given out too. Congrats to the Bushy Run guys on that.
