It's a terrain expansion for Heroscape, but will non-Heroscape gamers be attracted by the trees?

In January 2013 we were made aware that unauthorised (pirated) copies of our Range 17 Middle East buildings were being sold on e-Bay.

Investigation showed that the models were being copied and sold on eBay by a Mr Mark Richardson from Derby, here in the UK, using the eBay user name of "pj.brado69". He has also been purchasing casting materials (RTV Silicone Rubber etc) via eBay.

We have reported Mr Richardson to eBay and both Shropshire and Derby Trading Standards Service for copyright and Intellectual Property (IP) Rights infringement. We understand his eBay activity is currently being monitored by Trading Standards.

Mr Richardson has been sent notice to Cease and Desist the copying, manufacture and sale of unauthorised Time Cast products.

Mr Richardson has admitted selling the models on e-bay via e-mail although he has declined to respond to our Cease and Desist notice. Incidentally every one of the copies sold by Mr Richardson is now in our possession, the buyers having been informed that they were unauthorised copies. We are in the process of replacing their copies with the genuine models.

Interestingly Mr Richardson is most likely also out of pocket. The purchase of our models, plus the materials for the moulds (not to mention the time involved) cost considerably more than he got for selling the copies on e-bay. Mr Richardson should not give up his day job – he obviously doesn't have any talent for either business or crime.

However we also learned that Mr Richardson was also copying and selling items from a manufacturer of Doll's House Accessories (Sue Cooke Miniatures). We informed the owner of Sue Cooke Miniatures and they have subsequently registered a copyright and IP Infringement complaint with eBay. Trading Standards have also been informed.

In addition we know that he has purchased 6mm model buildings from yet another company, although these have not been offered for sale on eBay at the present time. We have contacted this company, as well as several others who may have an interest in this matter, and informed them of Mr Richardson's activities.

This has worked out quite well – we have caught and exposed the pirate and the customers he ripped off will have their copies replaced with the genuine models.

We will take action against anyone copying or pirating TimeCast products for sale on eBay. If you know of any copies of our products being offered for sale, or suspect that models sold as TimeCast products might be copies then please let us know.

Incidentally, we have also learned a great deal about dealing with IP infingement etc. If any UK manufacturers have a similar problem we will be happy to help out with advice and information.

:-)

I still have some of "those" skills. The Trading Standards chap was impressed. I daresay Mr Richardson is not so impressed.

Good on yer! Now how about a 20mm Vietnam range?

GarrisonMiniatures07 Mar 2013 8:52 a.m. PST

Excellent news and well done.

I think that there are a few people on TMP who should make a note of this action as far as their stated views go!

Angel Barracks07 Mar 2013 8:55 a.m. PST

Indeed GarrisonMiniatures, but probably fallen on deaf ears.

Fat Wally07 Mar 2013 8:59 a.m. PST

Well done Sir. The only pirates that should be tolerated by us as a group are figures on the table depicting pirates.

A Twiningham07 Mar 2013 9:07 a.m. PST

To paraphrase Wally (if I may), the only good pirate is a lead pirate!

PzGeneral07 Mar 2013 9:08 a.m. PST

Nice work! thumbs up

Cheers!

ashill207 Mar 2013 9:16 a.m. PST

Well done. I know that 'times is hard' for most people in the UK (i.e. all except the directors of Merchant Banks)but ripping off people in this way is despicable. To my mind it is theft, plain and simple, just like the bstd that stole figures from me.

Book 'em Danno!
Cool! Glad you got 'em!

Well done at catching the Alan (*)

If you could drop me some information on procedures you used, I might have need of them, and may have to refer someone who may have been involved in piracy.

As a consumer of Timecast products, I am pleased to hear that a pirate has been caught. The damage caused to small businesses by reduced sales threatens them as a going concern & that affects me by possibly removing a reliable efficient supplier of gaming products.

Good work Timecast & keep up the good work.
