What's new out there? Mostly looking for starship oriented, won't turn down planetside if interesting and different.

You need to read "Leviathan Wakes" and "Caliban's War" By James S.A. Corey (This is a pen name for two authors working together)

There are some Space Fights, some ground fights and a RIPPING good plot.

The Third book in the series is out soon. Each one CAN stand alone, but they carry a larger narrative.

These are probably the best Sci Fi I have read in the last few years.

John Scalzi.

I really like Michael Z Williamson's Freehold series (and the same-universe Ripple Creek Security series), but those are explicitly groundhog stories.

Ringo I've pretty much burned out on, what with the family feud from hell in the Posleen War and the OMFG the Muslims!!!111 in the Paladin of the Shadows.

Honestly, I can't say that I've even heard of much good spaceship stuff lately.
