I have the Starter box, have not played yet but seems very interesting. |

Yes. I HAD the beta book and gave it away. I *really* didn't like the dice mechanics
Game also seemed to be limited in scope.

There is a group of local guys over here that seem to be having a lot of fun playing it. |

We've played it a couple of times at the local club, I'm still in two minds about it. I can see the idea behind all the different dice but I do think it over complicates it

I've got the starter and I've run it twice, for two different groups. I rather like the dice. It isn't complicated once you get into it. All you are looking for is a success
just one. Everything else is the rpg part of the dice mechanic. The rpg mechanic scales success and failure based on the presence of the other symbols that come up. You can succeed in spectacular fashion, and succeed but give yourself a significant disadvantage in the next scene/round/whatever. I tried it on two groups – a true blue role playing set, and a power gaming set. Both liked it once they got used to the dice. The power gamers actually figured it out first. They liked that they could set the action events themselves when certain symbols came up. Combat fail? Missed the shot but close enough to distract that bounty hunter and make his next shot against you harder. Slicing success? Broke through the door security but set off an alarm. And if the imagination fails in a scene, you can always add/subtract strain and keep going. I won't get into a full review, but I liked it. I've been doing this for 25 years, and I appreciate the different nature of it. |
