I posted a battle report of the latest 28mm miniature fantasy battle we fought in our campaign using Hostile Realms and Theater of War, Piquet's campaign rules. link Enjoy! |

Nice game. So
what do you really think about the rules? I have toyed with the idea of getting them but am still sitting on the fence having heard as much bad as good about them. |

I'm a big fan. I recommend visiting the Piquet Ramblings section of my blog and checking out some of the articles. They are especially good for solitaire play. Let me know if you're still interested. You can buy the basic Piquet rules for $5. USD |

Yes, I'm curious about that too. I read the report -- nicely written -- and wonder whether the lopsided victory for the medievals was due to superior play or what? I rather like card-initiative games in general -- I think the Civil War game Battle Cry is great fun and pretty realistic within the limits of emphasizing playability. But I don't know enough about how the rules work. What could the undead player have done differently to win? |

Jed was pretty outnumbered, but he did have an advantage when it came to magic. The unbalanced nature of the battle was largely due to the campaign situation. The biggest problem the Undead face is the mounted knights. The knights are mounted, impetuous, excellent at melee, heavily armored, and not afraid of the Undead like the rest of the army. Jed might have used more magic to create obstacles like Wall of Fire to delay the knights. Another interesting strategy is to tempt the rash knights with cheap, weak units. When the knights charge, there is a good chance they will pursue the routers off the table. |

And to be clear, Fear plays a big part in the matchup. There are 3 Courage cards out of 31 in the MK deck. Each time one is drawn, any unit in contact or within a move of a unit they fear has to take a morale check. Undead don't rout, retreat, or take morale checks. |

Clicking on the links to Piquet, varously on the blogs, brings up some version of "no longer here" screen. Are the rules still being sold? Specifically, the Theater of War campaign rules? I tried Amazon and they don't have it in stock. I have the Master Rules and "Din of Battle" the Colonial supplement, but would like the campaign rules. I've been out of gaming for some time and just returning. Thanks. |

I believe On Military Matters carries most of their rules. Cool battle report! Really nice looking armies. I have the rules. We just don't have large enough armies to run games yet. We have been playing Mighty Armies which allows for smaller armies. Thanks, John |

The main Piquet site moved over the last six months. You can find it here: piquetwargames.com Of course, the account is suspended for some reason right now. DocMcB, I think you would enjoy Hostile Realms, as it has many of the same mechanics of your rules. All the supplements are still for sale. Dave has a lot of nice write-ups on his blog and so does Peter Anderson. Here is his blog: link Eric |

Yes, the approach that "Jed" takes to undead -- no morale, basically -- is pretty much what I do in PRIDE. |

Nice AAR. Any Piquet or Hostile Realms players going to be at Spring Fever this weekend? |
